My take away is even If I've watched countless hours of gameplay of ONI, actually playing the game for the fist time myself made me realize how incompetent I am not knowing about basic object placements or how to optimally build and dig. This quick guide gives me a better Idea of what to do and the courage to jump back in to solve my problems one by one. Thanks a ton~!

6:10 Another schedule trick - because if dupes don't need to use the bathroom, they simply treat bathroom time blocks like work time blocks we can greatly reduce the toilets needed in a colony- this is especially useful in space missions, where build space is highly restricted. You can set it so that it's just bathroom, downtime, and sleep for the dupes to use the washroom just whenever they need to (bladder > 60%) and ones available. This can greatly lower the demand for the number of toilets and sinks you'll need to build, as dupes would naturally space out their pee breaks so that the toilet is always busy. Well, busy with some leeway, we don't want any accidents because Meeps missed his 25 second pee break window after all. Depending on how bold you feel, you can go as crazy as 1 toilet for 15 dupes However, make sure you turn off auto disinfect, as they will prioritize disinfecting over work tasks during bathroom time, which can waste a lot of dupe labour for basically no gain. For reduced travel time for bathroom breaks, consider building small 4x4 bathrooms throughout the colony, and near either major pathways or areas where dupes tend to gather (industrial brick, farm bricks, rec areas that sort of thing)

staggered shifts are good, less toilet competition. they eat and poo same time, they synch with new guys. 1 block difference reduces accidents while they still chat during meals. downtime 2+2 not a crazy loss, they even shower during it or chitchat but they use it for bathroom too. I think 2 block sleep enough too, traveling is the issue, also eating more but less often, that was maybe updated. worst if they poop during sleep time. if they do static jobs they can be limited for movement with doors, having private rooms. bathroom time always 24 hours+travel time. maybe best 1 block after sleep with private toilet. space is plenty. used to build private rooms 4x4 with décor and air went. haven't played a while, need to try poles to private beds. maybe changing to eat-sleep-bath to control location and travel.

This game like many management games, can feel pretty overwhelming to a lot of people. When I look at it, all my brain do is stop processing thoughts and default to primal language. I become a different person. I can’t read, process words or even connect thoughts! It’s insane how much overwhelming this is but I am thankful to players like you who hold our hands and help make it seem doable .. :)

Something I do early on to control stress is to give the dupes bath time before +4 boost from downtime. So long as you avoid adding a recreational room and block the dupes from standing near the printer pod they will continue to work during their downtime. This also gives them plenty of time to go to the bathroom and eat before resuming their work. Something I like to do is stack 2 mesh doors on both sides of the pod. The top doors on both stacks allow dupes to get out, but not in. The bottom doors are on a cycle sensor, locking them during the dupes downtime. Before you have the sensor you can just manually choose when to allow them access and just build a way for them to walk around the pod if need be.
@engineertroy_

Interesting! I’m assuming they all have to be on the same schedule, right? Thanks for the comment!
@tregrenos8615
@tregrenos8615 11 ай бұрын
@@engineertroy_ If the printing pod cannot be accessed at all you can do this for any schedule. So long as the dupes cannot stand around doing nothing near the pod or in a rec room they'll continue to work during their downtime. Since I run small colonies I tend to keep my dupes on a single schedule, so during their normal work time I use a cycle sensor to keep a door open or locked in case I need access to the pod.

I have adhd and I got overwhelmed by it too. I bought it years ago and I tried it back then, but I couldn’t stay focused. The reading, the tasks, everything else .. it felt way too much for me. I still feel the same but I am giving it ago. I am a few years later, I am overwhelmed but I tell myself it is ok to mess up. I am ready to learn it on baby steps and I mean it. There is the no sweat mode so if you worry about your duplicants, that could work. I don’t know anything about it. However, it is fun to be this puzzled and occupied by a problem. I was playing for 3 days now and I wasn’t sure what to do with pee water. It has been causing me issues. However, I just learnt I can collect it and empty it in an enclosure! I am now struggling with Co2 issues .. it’s hard when you think of it all together but when you divide it into small tasks. It’s much easier and enjoyable. I promise you, I started this game a couple of days ago thinking “I know I hate it”! I have spent 7hrs on it! That is something. Does ut mean, I will be once efficient and good? Probably not. Maybe? I though feel a sense of accomplishment because I am trying something I know beyond my abilities to handle. So, let it rest for now and who knows. Maybe you will pick it up and enjoy it later someday

I dont knew for me i do like to have my dups have one or two interests at most I would rather have dups that are very good at a specific thing and deal with the moral by putting a natural park and a great hall with a phone and a cooler and any plant that gives this pink germs But i guess everyone has his way that he prefers
@yihsien1112
@yihsien1112 7 ай бұрын
@@actionj761 your dupes will keep level up their learned skills the more they do said tasks, so eventually even your +1 digging dupes will reach really high digging skill. But, your morale can only reach a certain threshold depending on your rooms and food. Having 3 interests means you can tech into multiple skill trees and still have really high morale dupes. The high morale bonus will be a lot better than the extra skill levels at the beginning once you hit mid game.

05:34 secret unlocked ;p Getting priorities and schedules fixed early on for every dupe pays off fast! First research should always be farming. Insulated tiles around your farm area or starting area to keep that sweet spot of 20°C. Keep heat generating buildings away! For Oxygen either spam Algae, or if you start having more than 6 Dupes offgas Polluted Water with deodorizers. Shouldn't worry about elecrtolyzer build until you are ready to build your first atmo suits.

Flatulence is only acceptable if they have the Loner trait and you can build a small room near the bottom that will filter the natural gas out of the air in their 120 quality room and they have to put on an Atmo suit to visit the rest of the world. They make free natural gas and if you store that for later, you will have a great power source. P.S. I just remembered that the Loner is planet-wide but they work fine being far away too

Point of clarity... (at 0:35 ish) As I understand it, you can only pick the traditional ONI game by clicking on 'deactivate DLC'. Clicking on the 'classic' option in asteroid style just gives you a bigger map, closer to or maybe equal to the size of the base game's asteroids. You still are playing the DLC, with various elements not included in the base game (e.g. radiation) and the spaced out tech tree. I'm not absolutely confident of this because... I own the DLC but I've barely played it.

One more thing: Duplicant priority takes precedence over regular priority, except for top priority. For example, if your mechatronic engineer has lower duplicant priority for building than others, or has other tasks in a higher duplicant priority, he will not build the thing that requires his M.E. skill unless top priority is chosen for that building task, and your regular builders can't build it so they wouldn't. I'd suggest new players to leave duplicant priority alone.
