I'm playing on Rime and it is interesting because you have to setup heating for plants instead of cooling. Pencha peppers almost feel out of reach, haha. Near the beginning I almost ran out of food. Further, there is a LOT of ice. This is good because you have water in abundance, but it also keeps you on your toes because if you don't sweep it up it'll melt and spread soggy feet EVERYWHERE.
@magnuscarlsson99695 жыл бұрын
Rime for sure, especially with frozen core and large glaciers mods. I play it with seed nr: 1479837528 It's only Frozen core and big glaciers, when machines gets damaged by frost build up and pumping water is a nightmare and the Ice never melts. :o) Also every animal and plant on the asteroids all dead. If you are lucky you may discover a plant before it go into a seed state due to the cold.
@Michael2137.5 жыл бұрын
Gamemode where you would have to fight againts cold instead of heat surely sounds fun.
@magnuscarlsson99695 жыл бұрын
@@Michael2137. Early on It's pretty easy to be honest. You can grow plenty of mealwood if you stick close to the gate etc. But once you start to dig around a bit and the insulation from the sorrounding material tiles start to get removed It get's cold very quickly. Even If that specific seed's fairly lucky being close to a steam vent and a volcano too generate some extra warmth It ain't enought once you break the insulation to reach these areas. From the core temperatures around -100 degrees slowly creeps upwards and then you have the space biome which also are really cold and a multitude of cold biomes around the map. Just outside the starting biome you have temperatures around -30 degrees. The only relatively safe direction to start going towards are the steam vent who generates some heat however temperatures in that biome are still just around the 0 mark. Ot's acctually a very fun mode, since even space heaters struggle to heat the air around them.

Maybe Rime + a self-imposed restriction of some sort to make it a bit more challenging, since others are saying it's an easy map? I haven't watched a playthrough on that map, so I don't know what would be an interesting rule to set for yourself. Pip-only planting allowed (once you get/find a pip)? Carnivore's paradise (no plants or mushrooms for food, just ranching/fish)? Require yourself to use 3 of the techs you never use in your maps because of drawbacks or you just don't like them? Enjoying the series, and as a new player the "Dude, fix my base" series was great for learning potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. Not that I *did* avoid them, always. I had a base go into a death spiral because I tried to expand too fast too early, and another I abandoned because it was a particularly dim-witted group of dupes who would trap themselves every time I had them dig more than 2 levels. And I'd gotten so desensitized to the warning chirp (thanks, over-sensitive starvation threshold!) that I didn't catch 2 before they suffocated to death. Whoops.

Curious why you've chosen not to make proper power grids with transformers, heavy-watt wire and whatnot? Seems like you could further reduce your coal usage and time spent with your dupes refilling them.

Btw, what do you feed your sage hatches? I noticed there is abundance of dirt on the forest asteroids. Hundreds of tons just keep accumulating and maybe it's not so bad to feed them dirt after all. On the other hand it's still a resource that's needed for farming and not entirely trivial to replace. Overall I guess sage hatches are great for meat as you can feed them low mass regular food. But they aren't that good for coal.

@thedougman20085 жыл бұрын
@@GrindThisGame some parts are tough, like getting crude oil, since most is frozen. I just collected it, then let it melt elsewhere. Farming takes some work to stabilize. I think it is worth trying. It would be easy for someone like brothgar who knows too much how to manage temperature. I got lucky with a steam vent, so I could grow high temperature crops.

Don't play Rime, that was the most relaxing base I've ever had in ONI - not a challenge in the slightest. I literally had all of my steel, power, petroleum and plastic production 2 tiles horizontally away from my base with no cooling temperature issues. The only difficulty is getting a farm set up. Just think about what you would have done to cool your farm to the appropriate temperature in this play through without Wheezeworts and do the exact opposite.

What is the best solution to power grids in your base? I always build one big circuit with small max 2kw curcits behind transformers, all my generator are on 1 heavy-watt wire. or is it better to build multiple independent circuits, like in the view around 08:30 ?

Oasis cause the sand makes it hard to explore and the heat is hard to deal with early game also there isn't much algae so oxygen is also an issue and I have been playing on oasis and my main issue currently after 100 cycles is an energy and water source and oxygen not much most of my air is barely breathable.

I saw some running side to side outside of the base, and with the size of the traveling, it made for a rather large distance. According to the game there's a 25% movement gain by tiles (tiles CAN get used to build rooms and they can get used to enhance movement). Is the game wrong? Is the time to make the tiles not worth the increase in movement speed?

@@GrindThisGame Rime is indeed not that hard. I just rushed for space heaters in the beginning and just made an insulated farm room w/ a space heater. The I automated the space heater so it wouldn't get too hot. On top of that, it's too cold for germs to grow so slimelung is non-existent in swamp biomes. It really hasn't been much of a challenge. I am watching Brothgar's oasis series and it is indeed probably the hardest map. He spent the first 100 or so cycles just surrounding the starting biome with insulated tiles.
