PlanetSail is the first aboard the eagerly awaited Oyster 495. She may be the baby of the fleet but as Matt Sheahan discovered she's an eye opener

That interior is absolutely amazing, especially the aft cabin.

Yes, though why no skeg rudder(s) option ... maybe I missed this? and a swing keel/lifting keel would be MONEY - the Caribbean and Med shallows... that is what Southerly does, though they folded into another boat builder. I know, all boats are a trade off.

@@drx1xym154 ?It only draws 2.1m that's pretty standard for 50 feet shouldn't be a problem in the Caribean or Med.

A very well equipped Kraken 50 is significantly cheaper. And with integrated keel and fully skegged rudder I’d feel better on board her.

Completely agree….modern designs are more for looks and short hops….not blue water. Good grief….her toe rail on the fore was barely above deck.

It is a great shame that after Oyster nearly went bankrupt that they came back with the usual pop out designs made for champagne cruises around the harbour. The new corporate owner obviously decided to cash in on the brand.

Beautifully engineered yacht, but like so many Deck saloon designs , if you can’t see out the windows when sitting in the saloon you completely miss the point ( yes there are hull windows but it’s not the same). Price seems fair though …. Cheers Warren

Yeah sort of agree with you, then again when your in the saloon your most likely eating, resting watching a movie or whatever. But I have to agree with you, it would still be nice to look out at paradise whilst eating dinner

@@Antipodean33 yeah, if you’re sit in the deck cabin of many catamarans and the new moodys you have full views from The saloon . This is great for warm and cold weather. ( or even air conditioning if that’s your thing) cheers Warren

Rails for arms and legs, as well as plaster for plastering are hopefully available in large quantities free of charge with the purchase of the boat. Why? Well, try to go through the salon to the forecastle in rough seas... No handles far and wide and a deck height in which you could jump trampoline, so not even a chance to screw handles under the ceiling. Thus bone fractures are preprogrammed! A layout that I would call a pure harbor boat or Sunday sailing weather boat. Completely unsuitable for practice at sea!

There was another hatch at the stern that wasn't opened - lazarette? Also I'd love to hear some explanation of the design decision to go with a saildrive - which I think is a first for Oyster.

Why aren't the decks on these kinds of expensive yacht solar collecting and leading to at least a hybrid motor powered by an LFP battery? There ought to be no need of gas for cooking, or diesel for under power in this day. Ought to be a retractable hard cover covering the cockpit too. Like it or not they're competing with larg Cats these days.

What an odd hull color. And no protection for the helmsman, this is for the Med or other easy sailing. The price tag is of course huge, due to the high quality and labor cost.

As a sailor who goes out a bit farther, I wish the concept of twin helm would disappear. We don't need it. It takes up precious space. And it offers almost nothing to an offshore sailor. I really don't understand the benefits of two helm stations except as a moneymaker for manufacturers. Please help me here. What is wrong with a single helm boat?

Who wants a helm position that exposed on a blue water cruiser? And solar. You need lots of solar on a yacht in 2022. The industry is years behind where it should be on that IMHO. Chuck the gas stoves out, have solar and a big battery. A PHEV.
