10 years old! I still actually enjoy this prequel to the 1939 original The film is super gorgeous to look at, the 3D effects are used effectively, the cast is excellent, the set and art design is amazing, and this lays the foundation for things to come The music, the pacing, and the acting are magical almost capturing the spirit of the older film Sam Raimi's signature style is present as well with the crazy camera angles, intense camera work, and the various horror elements expanding this fantasy world My heart was actually in suspense the whole time wondering who would become the iconic wicked witch A very good nod to 'Wizard of Oz' without stepping so much on its legacy with a standing performance by James Franco as a reluctant hero with layers

I wanna know what fucking awesome movie you guys watched, because the one I saw was BORING! Weak motivation for the Wicked Witch ("My dad's evil advisor (Lady Jafar) tricked me into believing the man I love (even though we've only known each other for, like, a day) was a conniving snake (which he is) and cheating on me with my sister! AHHHH!"), flat unbelievable performances from all the live actors, and CG that may look nice but it doesn't blend well with the practical effects or the live actors. Say what you will about Alice in Wonderland, but at least Tim Burton was able to work so well with the actors that everyone gave good enough performances to sell their roles and seem believable in the CG environments. It was a much more fun, magical, and heartfelt film than this. This was a rental for me overall. Why couldn't Disney just adapt Wicked? I would've loved the hell out of that!
