In one great masterstroke of financial chicanery, Marty manages to convince the cartel and the Snells to invest together in a riverboat casino that would allow drugs and bad money to flow freely. But Del uses the word redneck in Darlene's presence and she shoots him in the head.

I love how Ozark never underestimates that some people like Darlene are just batshit crazy and they can just as easily off the cold, calculating, and murderous killers that seem to be carry themselves as businessmen. A character like Darlene shows what these worlds are, and how easily a top leader can be killed in what would appear to be the most unlikely circumstance for the simple fact that the other person was mentally deranged.
@Gilliganfrog
@Gilliganfrog Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Real life has psychos in it who are 100% unpredictable, 100% capable of destroying their own best interests without a thought. Someone in Darlene's own operation should've quietly murdered her for being this capable "over-reacting", but things take doing.

Del was so much more intimidating than even Kingpin Omar himself, and subsequently Javi. But this sene was just incredible, and without it, the show might not have developed its unpredictable dramatic flare so suddenly - almost like Game of Thrones, this series chose to dispense with whom seemed like a mainstay character in such an incredulous fashion that it kept us (or at least me imho) even more on our toes! Masterful scene.

I feel like the difference is that in GoT, the deaths were sudden but they felt earned and logical. Despite the show's reputation, most of the deaths feel adequate and most importantly make for an interesting story. In Ozark, it feels way more superficial and done for the sake of shock. Yeah I guess this scene highlighted the fact that Darlene is a loose cannon but it wasn't worth wasting a character like Del that still had a ton of potential on.

This scene was the most shocking scene in Ozark. I was like what just happened? Del was supposed to be that strong and powerful man but Darlene just killed him effortlessly. Darlene isn't scary, she's stupid. It's a poorly written scene, and it's honestly an insult to Del's character. His whole deal is he reads people, and he completely fails to hear her tone here.
