I have a stupid question. When the lockers are on in a Rubicon and you are in 4hi or 4low, isn't the transfer case being stressed when you are rolling over dry stones/boulders? I thought this isn't good for the transfer case.

lockers have zero impact on the transfer case. It's the axles that can be impacted by lockers being engaged.

That 4-Runner needs to be traded in for a Jeep!
@robertwicker1963 жыл бұрын
Not sure any dealership would want My 4runner after all the Jeep Badge of Honor trails it has done (lol) ... I have 20 so far and a few of them have really left their mark. I love the Jeep's ability for off road trails especially the rock crawling, that being said I wouldn't trade my 4runner in for a jeep but I won't rule out owning a JL Rubicon one day. I love my 4runner and it has ties back to my younger days. I also own a 95 Tacoma that I will never sell. The 4runner is a great Overland vehicle and trips like this where we just rock crawl are too far apart to justify getting rid of my 4runner. I have over 85K miles on it and so far there is only two JBOH trails my group has attempted that I didn't feel I should try. Pritchett and Cliff hanger. Matt will show those videos shortly. Those two trails were almost too much for the Jeeps with 37's in our group but we got through them. However they were definitely too much for my 4runner on 35's in my opinion, especially with a trip planned through Colorado just around the corner. If I ever decide to trailer the 4runner to MOAB, I may give Pritchett a go, but as long as I have to drive home...I need to use good judgement :)

The situation with the 4Runner on Hell's Gate exhibited behavior I've seen in other IFS vehicles with the sway bar removed; primary experience is in a ZR2 group I run with where multiple drivers have done it to (IMO) mixed results. It's why I wouldn't remove it in my own ZR2 without some kind of supporting modification (possibly extended bumpstops?). In an ideal situation it does provide a benefit in articulation but it also seems to me that shifts in weight upset the front to a great degree and you can get hard to control body roll. This is part of why I'm also curious to see how the new Bronco's with disconnecting sway bars behave. I'm just spit balling but I think its not necessarily a net gain in some IFS vehicles.
@robertwicker1963 жыл бұрын
I think I will add the rear sway bar back and leave the front off for a while and see if that helps. Thanks for the input.

Agree to disagree
@MOAB-UT2 жыл бұрын
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Physics is physics. Your breakover angle is only 20.3. Bigger tires can help. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice and very expensive vehicle but it is certainly no Landcruiser. As they say, *"If you want to get there- take a Jeep. If you want to get back home- take a Landcruiser."* The Gladiator also has a long wheelbase which will afford you a smoother ride at the cost of departure angles. I suggested you stay out of the obstacles because your vehicle is far to expensive to roll it over and damage it...which happens all the time, especially in the hot tub and on H*ll's Gate...which nearly happened. Again, do whatever you want. I'll be the guy at the top of the gate watching you roll- it will happen if you keep it up. I have been going to Moab for many years...but again, it's your cash. If you have an infinite supply, have at it. Gladiator is more at home on fire roads and trails rated 5 or below. 4 or less would be best. H*ll's is rated at a 6...without the obstacles. Again, you are free to push your luck all you want. I am speaking from experience.
