Another Excel Experts Live Challenge. This time the guest is Model-Off Champion and superstar in the Financial Modeling World Cup competitions.

As an Excel veteran, in my experience when I am told the data does not have this or that scenario in it (because that is the way it is supposed to be) I have learnt to never assume anything or believe what I am told. A few years back I literally found half a million dollars across thousands of invoices that had not been claimed from our client due to a system control not working. If I had just listened to my boss and overlooked quirks I could see in the data, not only would we not have recovered the money but we would never have even known that we had missed it. A funny thing about accountants and CFOs is that they tend to not worry about revenue they don’t expect so they don’t always see the problem even thought it may reduce profits or even cause losses.
