Been on Ozempic for 8 months and have had nausea the entire time (it's been manageable and definitely worth it!) I can only tolerate a maximum dose of 0.5, I'm not diabetic and never have been and to date I've lost 56 lbs (was 210 lbs and 5ft 2) and it's changed my life. I had extensive spinal surgery 7 yrs ago resulting in restricted mobility and my weight started creeping up. In a foolish attempt to stop this (as I was unable to increase my physical activity) I reduced my calorie intake bit by bit until I was eating less than 1000 calories a day (which I continued for 5 yrs 🤦🏻♀️) which totally messed up my metabolism meaning that 5 yrs later when I eventually went back to eating a healthy diet meant my weight went up and up. Then came Ozempic! I am now able to eat a healthy diet AND lose weight, and a weird side effect is that I have completely lost the sweet tooth I've had for life. Ozempic has given me my life back, I'd become a virtual recluse because I was so embarrassed about how I looked and felt, my painkillers had to be gradually increased as my weight went up, my mobility was restricted more due to my size than pain. I'm now off antidepressants, halved my painkillers and am more mobile and have more energy than I've had in 10 yrs. Sorry for the long post but Ozempic has been transformative for me.

Thank you for uploading this video, it was so easily explained and made sense. I am from the UK and I have taken part in a lifestyle change course and next week I am able to have the injections from the NHS, until 14 months ago I have never been overweight and I have tried every diet and weight loss class known to man, and it just was not working. I went to my GP 3 months ago absolutely heartbroken that I have put on 5 stone of weight and in my opinion I could not understand why, he did routine blood tests and they came back that I am pre menopausal, pre diabetes, and I have cholesterol, so he came up with a plan that each week for 12 months I attend a lifestyle change class via Zoom, and committed patients to the course will be offered the injections funded by the NHS around 10 weeks of weekly classes, I am more than committed and I am feeling positive after watching your video, so thank you again 🙂

Thank you for this great video! I had bypass surgery almost 17 years ago. It was very successful for me, but in the past few years I noticed my weight creeping back to a place I didn’t like. I spoke with my surgeon, who recommended a couple of other medical options that didn’t work, and then prescribed Ozempic. It was a godsend to me! I also struggle with hypoglycemia, and it had the effect of smoothing down my sugars so I wasn’t feeling crummy so much of the time. I became eligible for Medicare this year, and finding a provider that would cover Ozempic was the most important part of my research. What I didn’t know was that in the US, Medicare will not cover ANY weight-loss medication. Because I am not diabetic, my only choice is to pay the $800/month out of pocket, which I do not have. I am so angry that they do not consider obesity to be a health problem. Before my surgery, I weighed 330 lbs and was headed to a lifetime of problems. Since then and the Ozempic, I’m at 147, and my doctor told me not to lose any more, that I was at the perfect weight for my height. I cried when she said that. And now I’m crying because Ozempic is refused to me. I was happy to hear about the new studies, and hope they convince our stupid government that our money is better spent on helping those of us who struggle with obesity rather than leaving us out to dry with our myriad health problems they will have to pay for because we continue to carry fat around with us…

I have been on Ozempic for 5 months and have lost 25 lbs. I have major stomach issues with constipation and stools that are hard. I have to use Muralax daily. I don’t want to give up Ozempic because it is regulating my diabetes and helping me lose the weight I desperately need to lose. I see my Endocrinologist in April and we will see if he increases it to 1.0 or keep it at .5.

And I can’t eat even a portion of what I used to. It’s absolutely amazing. I hope it continues to work for you. And this is just .25. I go to .5 this Saturday. (Nausea. Stomach cramping. The usual. I'm in Canada, a new Type 2 diabetic and went through the initial 12 shots working from .25 to .75 mgs. Then the 1 mg shots per week and only finishing the first 4 shots (weeks) in 1 weeks time. My next pen is on order. I actually started changing my diet back June/July last year, when I was between 220 and 230. I had lost 10 lbs initially over the summer, but then in September I began losing consistently. Since starting Ozempic has suppressed my appetite. I am now down to 184. No it has not been losing it's effect and no side effects. This week, I projected forward that if I continued on this path, I would be down to below 140 by May. At Five Foot Nine, I am now forcing myself to eat, to restrain the weight loss. btw I am sedentary because of age, physical impairment. Aiming for between 165-170 plateau.

And glad I stumbled across this post, was very simple and easily understood, and certainly making things look much brighter on the type 2 front, and the weight loss results from what I've read in the comments below, seem to be quite exceptional. So from someone who's been quite overweight for most of my life (though have been able to maintain fluctuations to 5kg either side of 'my normal' weight, I'm certainly looking forward to some positive results...and yes have already started on the lifestyle changes since the start of 2021. @@theofficialdrdan I actually do!! I have type 2 diabetes and I think I am predisposed to it as I am indigenous ( Mohawk Indian). While I understand the disease itself and why, I don't understand the fact that at least 2 other medications I'm prescribed work in direct opposition to the Ozempic as far as weight loss goes. Metformin actually causes increased appetite and weight gain. Why prescribe it at all?
@theofficialdrdan3 жыл бұрын
@@sheriroberts8055 For most people metformin shouldn't effect appetite or lead to weight to gain. It is usually weight neutral and in some cases can lead to weight loss. Metformin is often used with ozempic because the two are very effective at managing BG levels. Metformin helps to bring down insulin resistance substantially and therefore blood sugar levels. Sometimes other diabetes medications such as gliclazide can lead to weight gain in the process of managing BG levels. So it is a balance of trying to bring your BG levels down and manage weight at the same time. In my patients I attempt to remove weight promoting medications and optimize with ozempic and metformin! Hope that makes sense?

@@sheriroberts8055 It is tough to say. One thing to note is that it is not always effective at lowering BG levels as it depends on how much residual pancreas function you have left. So it may still help with weight loss but not BG lowering. There are a lot of potential factors.

I started taking Ozempic July 2020 at 230 pounds. With a revised eating plan and commitment to regular exercise, I lost 85 pounds in about 18 months. Not too quickly because I wanted to solidify changes in lifestyle before I lost all the weight. I’m now reducing my dosage amount and experiencing more bothersome GI side effects. I have always had diarrhea which does not bother me. It’s the abdominal pain which is difficult. I’ve had blood work completed to ensure that there are no serious complications and I’m hoping that the pain will go away as I reduce the dose. I do not have diabetes but was on the verge of insulin resistance until I lost the weight. This is the first time I have lost weight slowly and I would not have been able to do it without Ozempic. Hi Dr. Dan, I’ve been on 0.5 mg Ozempic for about 7 months now (for type 2 diabetes). Yes like most had the GI issues in the beginning, mostly nausea etc, but after about 2-3 weeks, that went away. I’ve lost about 50 lbs total, but in the last 4 weeks or so, haven’t lost anything. I seem to have hit a plateau. I still have about 40 lbs to lose to hit goal weight of 170 lbs. My type 2 diabetes is totally under control, went from an A1C of 7.9 consistently to 5.8, and blood glucose levels very stable. Yes I think of Ozempic as a miracle. My question is would increasing the dose to 1mg get me back to losing the weight? Like I said, my blood glucose numbers are awesome right now and I don’t want to change that, but would like to lose more weight. What do you think? Love the channel.

Hi Tye, It is honestly tough to say. Ozempic might help with further weight-loss at a higher dose. However, the thing we need to keep in mind is that it is not helping us burn more calories on a daily basis. So if our weight loss stops what is happening is we are eating the same amount of calories as we are burning. In order to lose further weight we need to either eat fewer calories or increase our activity levels. Ozempic might help with the later but it might not. We also want to ensure you have an adequate amount of nutrition to properly sustain your body! Either way if you increase the dose it will not affect your blood sugar control. It might help to improve it further if anything! Hope that helps

I have been on ozempic for 2 months. Haven’t seen any weight loss but my sugar is under control. So that’s where I am at right now. Now I will concentrate on my weight loss plan.

I have a question is it safe to take ozempic while being hypothyroid and taking levothyroxine medications? Thanks
@truthfirst94883 жыл бұрын
Been on this since January, I’ve lost over 20 pounds now, the only side effects I had were nausea, constipation, I’ve had to increase water intake considerably, I feel it’s plateaued this month with on.y 2 pounds lost, I am exercising and really trying to monitor everything I eat and stay under 2000 calories, I used to feel full initially and kinda went off food even at the beginning, especially meat for some odd reason, I find Ozempic really stops cravings, chocolate and regular coke was my fix and I’ve almost stopped having those now and just have as a occasional treat. I am 50 female, with thyroid problem and crappiest metabolism know to man!,! Lol, im also on blood pressure meds and anti depressants, I am now 248lbs and really want to lose another 100lbs so it’s coming off slowly which is perfect as I don’t want to b3 left with a ton of sagging skin or need surgery for that, I’ve been over weight since my first baby 26 years ago.
@theofficialdrdan3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have made some incredible lifestyle changes! That is the key to lose weight slowly and continue to make small tweaks. Yes, the initial fullness was due to the side effect of how it slowed down food moving from your stomach to your small intestine. ANd your body gets used to this after a period of time, but it still acts in the reward centre of the brain! Keep it up and let me know if you need additional support :)

I’ve been on ozempic for 3 months and I’ve seen amazing results in both A1C and weight loss. After 4 weeks my A1C went from 6.3 to 5.7! I’ve lost a total of 20 pounds in 3 months! It sounds ridiculous but it’s all true. Looks like obesity in America may be on its way to extinction!

I am not diabetic but obese. My insurance won’t pay for this, and the cash price for one month’s dosage is $1,005.77!! I cannot afford this!! Any ideas on how I can make this happen for me?

What about the price? At $450 per month after insurance is not visible for many people.

Thank you. I am about to commence Ozempic for weight loss due to increased weight caused by hypothyroid, menopause and broken metabolic rate. This was a most informative description of how O works for non diabetics presented clearly and in a easily digestible way for non scientists. Hopefully my results will be good and my side effects low. My O prescription will also be supported by nutritional advice and exercise so I am looking forward to a more energised life in future. I agree with your take on medical advances of recent times. It must be very exciting to be at the forefront of this new wave of medical discovery.

You have explained this better than my Dr ever has. I have tried nearly every diabetes med and shots (lizard spit???) Without any success. This led to lap band surgery, removal of lap band (nightmare) which led to VSG which worked until it didn't and weight was regained. Ozempic has been a lifesaver for me and I regret the VSG more than I can say. Yes I did have GI effects including nausea, vomiting etc, but the weight is coming off, literally don't even think about food anymore and my A1C is 5.8 from 8.5. I just wonder how ozempic is working in tandem with VSG that I cannot reverse. Thx for your thoughts. Lori from KC
@theofficialdrdan3 жыл бұрын
Yes it certainly can help in tandem in supporting your weight management efforts. It can be challenging to get enough calories in sometimes but it can certainly support the process! I am sorry to hear you have had such a tough go myfriend!

@@theofficialdrdan Thx for your response. Rough road is an understatement. The ozempic is a total game changer (1.5mg with Dr OK) and I wish I could shake people that are lining up for a surgery you can't take back and ozempic really feels the exact same in terms of controlling hunger lowering A1C. Now if I could find a cure for my chronic insomnia, life would be just about perfect. Thx again. Keep up the good fight, Ozempic, NO SURGERY.

Question and I waive any right to a professional Liable. I am on Ozempic of of 3 weeks ago. I also bought out of country, Nutropin and use 2.2 ius a day and the ozempic .5 a week and im in week 4. I lift weights and now eat OMAD. I do feel light headed when I use both meds but it doesnt last longer than 10 minutes. I am 336, BP is in the yellow and close to green. Is there anything I need to look out for??

Great information. I started ozempic mid September 2022. It's now Feb 28, 2023 and I've lost 35lbs so far. I had a gastric bypass surgery in 2006, lost 96lbs. Then my back started hurting badly. I have 3 problems with my back and was put on gabapentin. Miracle drug but caused my weight to come back. I was angry! I stopped gabapentin in 2015. I lost 26lbs afterwards. I'm on other meds and last year was put on amitriptyline for migraine prevention. That caused a lot of side effects including weight gain. I chatted with some friends and one of them now has type 2 diabetes. She lost her weight with ozempic. I talked to my doctor and we both agreed to stop the amitriptyline and start ozempic. I've been borderline diabetic on and off for years. I started ozempic Sept 2022, with .25mg to start and now 1mg. I'm so happy with this med. I would personally suggest this to not only diabetics but to the obese. One thing I'm not happy with is my skin obviously not shrinking as well, hahah, but I can deal with that somehow. Best of luck to those who also take ozempic.

I took my first dose of .25 on Tuesday. Little bit of nausea and a headache. My a1c was 7.9 prior to starting. I'm hopeful that my insurance will approve it as right now I'm on samples. Fingers crossed 🤞
