This goes out to Steven Levin; I get exactly what you were saying about the cruelty as it pertains to a parent uprooting a kid in high school. I went from the state of Indiana to the state of Illinois (some 300 miles away) the summer after my sophomore year (1987). I literally found out on the last day of school that we were moving. As great of an opportunity as it was AT THE TIME for my father job wise, it ended up being the catalyst which almost destroyed our family and a few years later this move was more or less what did my parents' marriage in. Oh yeah, and it really sucked for me big time. It probably took a good ten years to fully accept that the other road I/we could have gone down didn't/wouldn't happen. Oh man did I lean on heavy metal music back then to pull me through that shit. I'm in your camp, don't do that shit to your kid's mom and dad!

Sabbath/Dio hands down with my fav out of their two being Mob Rules. Masterclassical Dio lyrics and iconic Iommi riffs. Falling Off The Edge Of The World being my all time fav Dio era Sabbath jam. A close 2nd is Heaven And Hell with the Ozzy/Rhoads offerings coming in 3rd and 4th, Diary Of A Madman ranking above Blizzard.

did you listen to the musicianship, Blizzard of ozz clearly the superior band Iommi on his best day could not write something as good as Diary of a Madman which took Rhoads 4 weeks to write, rehearse and record, and many of the solos are guide solos he did not get a chance to rework or overdub. Tony is great but he is not Rhoads .

@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle truly Rhoads may have more technical technique, but Iommi has a more of a seasoned feel to his approach. Dealing with the loss of his two fingertips, enabled him to develop a tone that birthed the whole Doom and Sludge genres. Flash and neoclassical flair is good and all, but for me it's more about the depth of the tone and groove.

@@scottricci5063 He is more everything , skill, talent, knowledge. A more seasoned feel? Rhoads picked up guitar at the age of 6 and never put it back down. Rhoads had more feel than Iommi did on those 3 Sabbath songs that he made his own.

The Devil You Know Honorable mention to the 3 tracks from the Dio years (especially Ear in the Wall) and Live Evil (love Dio singing NIB & Black Sabbath). I do count The Devil You Know as a Sabbath album and Bible Black is my favorite Sabbath song.

Funny that when growing up it was the Ozzy albums but today in my 50s it’s the sabbath albums that have stood the test of time better. But Madman is my favourite album of the 4

no, diary is hands down the superior album of the 4, that is as timeless as it gets,. You should listen to the live versions to snap you back into place. Blizzard of ozz and Diary of a madman are two seminal albums, Randy changed the game. Iommi is a great player in his own right but he did not have the knowledge. Compare the isolated guitars, with Rhoads you almost hear something new every time....with Iommi it's the same with instruments or without.

In my house I call those first two Ozz album the BLIZZARD OF OZZ band because they were a real band....not just Ozzy. To me Blizzard and Diary are every bit as good as any of the first 6 sabbath albums. The same can be said for Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. It's a shame the Heaven and Hell and Blizzard of Ozz lineups didn't stay together and write and record well into the 90s. You could easily argue any of these 4 albums as the best of all time. I listen to Sabbath more but I love em both.

your house is 100 percent correct, those two albums are by Blizzard of ozz, I have cancelled the Osbournes revisionist history channel in my house as well. Diary is arguably the greatest album ever written, done in 4 weeks as you know, Randy not even having a chance to overdub some of the songs or change the solos....those scratch solos better than Iommi's multi take solos. Dio Sabbath is better than Ozzy Sabbath that much I believe

They deserve their own legacy outside of Sabbath's shadow IMO. Plus sabbath is in the (crappy) RRHOF but Dio isn't.....so that only supports my point. I actually think Live in Radio city by Heaven and Hell is Iommi's best release.

It would have to be Sabbath with Dio because the only Ozzy album I can listen to from start to finish is Dairy. I only like 2 songs on Blizzard.

two great bands but this is no contest, Blizzard of ozz just a superior band to Sabbath .... Randy vs Tony Tony is great but we're talking about Randy Rhoads. Bob Daisley a better bassist than Geezer and lyricist. Diary of a Madman arguably the greatest album ever written, Randy's scratch solos are better than Tony's recorded solos. Lee Kerlslake carried a more important role on Diary having to demo melody lines above Ozzy's pay grade.
