Thanks for the nostalgia trip. I was SS3 AW2(TAR) at VP-94, NAS NOLA, 1988-91. We flew P3B's (built in the mid-60's) VP94 closed it's doors in 2006, after Katrina. Hey there Crawfishers!

We don´t want hearing the music in this kind of videos, no matter as good it is.The pure engine sounds is what we want to hear!!!!!

That was the deployment I mentioned. We were on our way to Japan when the first plane went down. Brunswick is closing in 2011 26 is the last squadron out this month. After they deploy, they won't be back Sad for me.

an orion could stay up in good conditions on one engine, thats pretty cool. And it can back up while taxing!
@rexbentley83323 жыл бұрын
It would have to be very very light to the point of ridiculous there is one performance chart that you can figure single engine rate of descent nothing for climb or maintain altitude
@merqury53 жыл бұрын
@@rexbentley8332 look it up. Lockheed p-3 orion, very powerful engines for a small plane. I belive it can maintain altitude with one engine.

Did anyone notice the approach plate wedged under the glare shield? Can anyone remember why? Minor correction: the E-handle is not used for a loiter shutdown. This is my first lecture on P-3 operations in 45 years. The music is from my era, but I'd rather hear the cockpit conversation and the sound of the engines.
@rexbentley83322 жыл бұрын
At one time you did use the E-handle for loiter shut down.
@P3cNavyBrat14 жыл бұрын
@YanYan1337 If the engines are such a concern for you, then why is the same engine used on C-130s and why would the P-3 spend so much time at 500 ft off the deck over water?
@woodysix817 жыл бұрын
the mission may have changed but they are in higher demand now than they were during the cold war. the replacement aircraft will never be able to do half of what a mid size prop driven plane can do. 20 years flying every variation of P-3 and navy C-130s.
@mice22415 жыл бұрын
i wondered if you served with my dad? go mad foxes!!!!!! i agreed p-3 still rocks!

@P3cNavyBrat i cant answer that lol all i know is that they radio in IFE's all the time for loss of an engine

VP 6, SS1/2/3, AQA7 ... we were cross trained in that era. Bunch of youngsters on comments. U can buy a P3 stripped of extra weight Classified equip for $500000. That's same price as a very nice RV. Did repair job on x Lockheed engineer RV that wanted to hook me up with the plane on payments. SAD!! Can't afford the wrenches n fuel but was thinking about the kitchen n bunks and how to outfit as an RV. What a man cave that could be. LOL
@centurion180ad13 жыл бұрын
@P3CDub Have you seen what the hollow brass hats are replacing P3 with? They have a hunk-of-junk called P8, a huge widow maker and war loser waiting for a time & place to happen. It is a wide 737-body airliner with 2 jet engines, and it is a WHITE ELEPHANT! It is IMPOSSIBLE to replace a naval 4 engine turboprop with a wide 737-body airliner with 2 jet engines. IMPOSSIBLE, but it is being done anyway.

Any aircraft can last indefinitely if maintained the way it should be; that includes major structure items. The problem is we are throwing everything away and we have not realized, neither we nor our children nor our children's children can afford to replace them. And it is the same for all branches of the US military...we just don't know it yet or the folks (politicians) making the upper level decisions don't. so i ask how many will have to die for our/their failures?
