I swear that sounds like the real thing! I'm tellin' ya, the way to go would be an 80% scale ALL-METAL Mustang with this (Falconer) V-12 in it. Good Lord, Almighty!, I'd wet my pants just thinking about it! :-)

Wow, I've never seen a Falconer V12 take that long to start before. Amazing sound though.

CORRECTION: With a length of 24.2 feet and a wingspan of 23.8 feet, the Thunder Mustang is a 3/4 scale replica and not a 7/8 scale replica of the Mustang. The original North American P-51 Mustang has a length of 32.25 feet, and wingspan of 37.0 ft.

Whenever you scale down an airplane you have to cheat a bit on the scaling of the fuselage. You have to go bigger than the scale would be or the pilot wouldn't fit inside it. The fuselage width is only reduced by a small amount. And sometimes it is necessary to make the horizontal stabilizer a bit bigger than scale for stability and balance. Still an awesome project. The fun of flying a real-close Mustang at a small fraction of the purchase and running cost of a full size real one.

Unless you build a mitsubishi A6 and you'd need a severe diet at 7/8 scale

Sorry about this, but whenever I see an aircraft engine being reluctant to start that line from "The Empire Strikes Back" pops into my head. You know the one where Han Solo is trying to get the Millennium Falcon started in the middle of a firefight and Leia says to him, "Would it help if I got out and pushed?" Um...I'll go now...

How about a BMW M70/M73 V12 with a blower supercharger and accessory gearbox with a high torque starter motor? It'll sound even more Merlin like.

It would be cool if they made a thunder p-40 and other kinds of fighters the P-51 was the best in my opinion but I thing it would be cool

I noticed the inner gear doors once the engine started coming up.. Is that because HYD pressure started to build?
@kirbyyork4257 жыл бұрын
leokov I think they operate on air cylinders and a small compressor unit, theez newer high powered racing engines R almost all electronic so I'm sure the landing gear doors R somehow controlled electronically.

you do not have to be rich to own an airplane. Maybe not one of these but you can buy good older airplanes for 15,000 and up to your limit.

@av8rshane4912 жыл бұрын
That’s the way the original p-51 worked, when engine starts the hydraulic pump builds pressure and the gear doors close

+Paul Lubliner Scale replicas provide a tremendous cost savings for pilots wanting a high performance aircraft. There are significant savings in initial costs, insurance, and fuel. Originals have operating costs in the thousands per hour.
