Your pipe bending and soldering on the combi boiler was super. I know you said there were things you didn't like about your work, but I thought it was fantastic. If you don't already, you should consider teaching because you clearly have the knowledge and you explain things very clearly. You even draw things in a way that is very easy to understand. Good on you.

Best advice you've given so far! Holding your hands up to your mistakes, being honest when you've messed up and being prepared to sort things out and man enough to accept any consequences there may be is a big deal and a true show of character. Nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes and it's how you deal with them and learn from them that really matters. P.S. love the pipe bending tutorials, you should charge for that knowledge! 😂

I had a boiler installed in a property I am doing upfrrental. The fitter asked me if there was a water meter - to which I replied there wasnt and off he went. An hour later my curiosity got the better of me and I went to ask him the relevance of the water meter and he explained that if there was a water meter he would have to fit an expansion vessel. I said that as it was going to be rented out the tennent may get a water meter fitted and it would be prudent to fit the expansion vessel anyway. He never explained why it would need to be fitted. Its a good job I pushed him to fit the expansion vessel. If he had asked the correct question of "is there a water meter or non-return valve fitted?" my answer would have been yes as I had followed Building Controls instruction to fit a non-return valve immediately after the stopcock.

Good video, regarding min expansion vessels/shock arrestors on the cold main to the boiler. It is best practice to fit one on everyone, as even if the property does not have a water meter fitted it could have one fitted over the life of the boiler and may not be picked up on annual service, or risks the boiler having a problem that will not be covered by the warranty. We learnt this the hard way when a housing estate we had fitted a lot of boilers on had a new water main. Every property had a water meter connection fitted that houses the no-return valve. Fitting the boiler to all MIs is so important to protect the customer/their boiler warranty and also the reputation that all professionals build to get 'word of mouth' work.

Been appreciating all your videos Pete. Clear and Concise. Curious about the shock arrestors, as I fitted 2 recently, and they could only be upright/vertical in orientation, not horizontal, as in your install. Looked identical to yours fitted, but perhaps different M.I.'s for different brands. What brands yours as horizontal install flexibility would be good! Keep up the great work and good luck with your ACS.

Loved this video mate, can honestly say I've never read that bit in the 830 instructions but from now on shall be installing shock arrestors. I was under the impression brass hydraulics didn't need them but I stand corrected. Also on the f**k up I've done similar on site lately and have no shame in admitting when I've made a mistake. I normally fix any accidents there and then otherwise as you say, you forget.

I can understand why you solder at a part of the fitting that you can't see but i'm completely the opposite. When i solder i like to be able to see the solder on the pipe a bit as well. Only reason is is if i woke up in a sweat at 2am and wondered if i had forgotten to solder a fitting i would like to see that fitting has been soldered a few weeks later even when it has oxidised a bit. Even though i check the fittings afterwards, it's easy for things to play on your mind

Worst thing in the world when all of a sudden you think......shit did i do this or that and it plays on your mind. I too have been back to many jobs and made ridiculous excuses to customers just to double check something. Mini vessels.... i fit ideal boilers as a rule and they are now quite hot on them so probably for the last couple of years they all get a mini vessel, a pressure reducing valve and a filter even before the Max range. They offer good warranties (which inflates the price) so you have to protect the customer by not giving the manufacturer the opportunity to say not installed correctly and walking off.

What i would prefer to do for the first bend over the gas pipe that has a little less risk to it, i.e cutting it short is make the first bend a double set over the gas pipe on the horizontal piece then an elbow then a single set on the vertical piece going into the other end of the elbow. Obviously it won't be a continuous pulled bend piece but having the elbow there reduces the risk of ruining the whole first section piece
