in universe this suit was another attempt by the federation to mass produce the Gundam, but unlike the GM the G-line kept the same specifications of the RX78-2 so, it's basically a Gundam in anything but looks and name (and it looks cool af)

@@Castitalus Not really, the G-Line is no GM and is a unique mobile suit line of its own like the Pale Rider line that takes data from RX-78-4 and RX-78-5

So quick question, from where does it say the G-Line is about the same specs as the Gundam? This is not meant as a "Well actually" thing, I've heard the fact that it is basically a mass produced RX 78 (sometimes they just say 78 in general or sometimes specifically the 2). The Gundam Wiki says it's overall worse in specs alone, but not everything on the wiki is trust worthy and there is a lot of contradicting information on there. The only source they have just says it was "meant to be a mass production RX 78" in translation. This kit's manual doesn't have any lore details since it's P-Bandai (I had to check on dalong) so it's even more of a mystery now. As a base line, the only Mass Production Suit that is always said to be basically "equal" to the Rx 78 2, is the GM III. This is further reiterated by GBO2 (which again I'm not saying it's a reliable source but it is something) since it costs the same as the OG Gundam. Now there isn't a "Basic" G-line unit without any armor on GBO2, but the Standard Armor is there and it is once again at the same cost as the OG Gundam (though cost in GBO2, or Gundam Battle Operations 2 if you don't know, is not just base specs, it has to do with weapons and health) So now the question is: Is it about the same or slightly worse than the RX 78 2? and Where does it say that?

@@RynerGT In short, the G-Line is a perfected mass production RX-78-2 and better with it having an interchangable loadout system but is more closer to the RX-78-7 with it also having similar capabilities

this unit appeared in the PS3 game "Mobile Suit Gundam: Battlefield Record U.C. 0081" and acts as a partner unit to the 7th Gundam.

Really like the Katoki redesign look of the G-line. I hope someday they'll redo the Full armor gundam 7th in new HG format with detachable armor pieces.

Hopefully Bandai will do a re-issue at some point, or maybe they’ll release some other G-Line variants. Thanks for always making such clean, straightforward vids!

Like it or not retail storefronts don't want their limited shelf space bogged down with niche designs that will sit there not moving, especially ones from video games that bombed; they just want guaranteed hot tickets like the steady flow of Grandpa, Zaku, and Unicorn. Things like this are a direct-to-consumer release, or they're just never happening.

I'm hoping they do more with the mold and give us the Assault, Light, and Full Custom armors in the eventual future. The original game was questionable but the G-Line itself was a great design

The reason this suit was a Bandai release and not a regular release was because it only appeared in a PS3 video game called Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record UC 0081 released in 2009 and also in a manga of the same name also released in 2009 and to date that mobile suit has never appeared in any animated media, in addition to the fact that the video game where it appears was exclusive to Japan, that is why this kit was released in Bandai as it is a mobile suit that is not so well known and that is why it has to have been in Bandai and not a regular release.

During the pandemic, since we were all locked in, I got really hooked on Gundam Battle Operation 2 for the PS4 as a way to spend time. Since I wasn't going to spend money on in-game purchases, I grinded my way until one day I received a special drop: the G-Line Standard Armor. I used that suit for months (almost a year, actually) and reached a good playing level. Needless to say, I got some attachment to it and wanted to buy the kit, but the presale closed down quick or they sold out, whichever. Now they're very expensive on eBay and other markets. Kinda bummed, but happy it turned out to be a good kit.

the MS design actually predates many of those for over a decade, according to Mecha HQ, it's more likely they were inspired by it. But I do like the update on this design.

@@Lacunan The G-Line as the "RX-81" is first mentioned in the original Mobile Suit Variation publications in 1983; it would get its first visual mechanical design in 1990 in the Kunio Okawara Collection, aka Missing Mobile Suit Variation (M-MSV). Katoki would later redesign and kinda streamline the G-Line and its related armor forms for its staring role as the protagonist suits used in Battlefield Record UC 81 for the PS3 in 2009, a game that notoriously bombed as is one of the common examples cited for the "no good gundam games" position. That said, the comparison to Full Armor Gundam 7th is fitting, since that also visually debuted in M-MSV

Why is it "unfortunate" that it's a Premium Bandai release? I kept hearing that in this review and don't understand why.

Because they make a smaller amount of them, you can only order from P-Bandai in certain countries, and if you buy it from anywhere else, the price will be marked up even more than usual. When it's just a variant of another kit or an optional parts set, it's not that big of a deal. But when it's a brand new kit, they should have made it a standard release.

If you're not in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, or North America, ie a place that has its own P-Bandai online shop; P-Bandai releases are troublesome to get a hold of at a fair price due to needing forwarding services, proxy shoppers, or extra marked up 3rd party retailers. This kit in particular is mostly a new mold (some of its weapon parts are shared with the Avatar Fumina) and the common argument and perception is any new mold should be a standard release. I understand that sentiment, but a lot of stuff is too niche, or just not as widely popular as people personally want to believe; retailers do not want to waste their limited space on shelf warmers or an obscure unit that only a handful of people will want- not when that space could be dedicated to more units of a guaranteed high-selling banger that even the most casual eye will be attracted to; and thus the endless waves of updates and remasters and new versions of Grandpa, Zaku II, Unicorn, Nu, Freedom/Strike Freedom, etc. I'm sure retailers remember things like the Hong Kong stores with pictures of the Gundam Bael stacked up to the ceiling, or the more recent example of the flood of Michaelis kits that were shelf warming; they can make anything a standard release but that won't matter if retailers won't want to order them. Katoki's design for the G-Line is sleek and the unit is expandable because there's 3 other armor loadouts that could be released- so part of me agrees it would be nicer as a standard release, but the game it starred in was a notorious bomb and it's an otherwise unheard of and unseen unit (only appearing outside of its original artbook in a few other massive crossover games like GBO2 and SD G-Gen Overworld) - the more practical view is it's only cool and exciting to a small clique of fans and it being direct-to-consumer was likely the only reasonable way it would happen at all, similar to the Engage Zero/Engage Gundam, etc.
