I totally agree as the content of the lesson is not controlled by the teacher, and learners can expand it according to the limit of their knowledge while the control comes only on the direction of the lesson. So, a teacher can choose between starting from the last 'P' or the first 'P' making the sequence more flexible.

In my teaching context the more relevant translation of PPP is 'Punctual', 'Plain' and 'Pleasant'. These principles seem to synchronize teacher, learner and institution. Language itself is so messy no one dares to know how things 'really' work, and teachers are such a mixed lot, so just 'PPP' your way through.

I think that controlled practice is highly necessary. When you try to teach students something like how to express regret using the third conditional tense, you need to hit them at least ten or fifteen times on separate days before it sinks in. I teach it, then review it again and again for a few minutes at the beginning of each class. It works like television advertising does. There is much to be said about the benefits of repetition.

Controlled practice definitely has a role to play. There are two other points I'd add. One is to move from controlled to freer practice with increased personalisation that can enhance retention. Sometimes, people refer to this as the fourth P. Secondly, I think it's good to consider when we review and, like vocabulary, employing an 'expanding review cycle' (or 'spaced repetition') can facilitate more efficient/effective memorisation.

Could you enable the auto-generated closed captions in your videos, please? Great debate on PPP, btw.

because you are imagining a past situation in a way that is different from what actually happened...so that is why it is often used, pragmatically, to express regrets.

I finally got a clear idea the "PPP" is not strictly behavioristic in nature as I was told earlier.

In fact, language learning is more a recurrence process. Not a linear mechanism...

Why is 3rd conditional always associated with regret?

Conditional is not a tense but a mood.
