Thanks for sharing knowledge, today I understand better the use of the substrate. I am learning more about pines every day. I'm crazy about those trunk thicknesses and I don't quite understand how you say they are young, what is young for you? How long does it take to make those trunks?. I guess that you leave large sacrificial branches over and over again, taking care not to cause scars that you can't disguise. Have they always been in pots?

Generally speaking, black pine bonsai needs to be over 20 years old. My trees are around 10 years old yet. Trunk thickness is almost made only by a first sacrificial long branch. I recommend you grow young trees in pots, not a ground.
Thanks for explaining. What's the price of akadama and kyriu there? Here in Spain the 14L bag of triple line akadama is 20 euro, and kyriu is similar.

In Japan, where deflation fas continued for about 30 years, prices are low and akadama costs less than 1 euro. I usually use akadama and yahagi sand that cost 0.5 euros.

@@bonsai-haruyoshi even 25 euros per 14L 3xred line Ibaraki. TOCHIGI heated extra hard 22€.Actually the akadama is coming really soft and with a bad granulometry, kanuma even worst. This is why I am using mainly Italian keisheki or better Japanese because is more regular and is very well washed. Karuishi 18L bag 16-18 euros a little bit cheapest than akadama but pretty much durable. Italian pomice 50L bag approx 18-22€ but it comes very, very dirty the Spanish pomice is better but very very difficult to find because everything has to be exported and the production is lowest...

@@bonsai-haruyoshi I am testing crushed ceramic bricks and roof tiles plus keiseki and kiryu or zeolite and runs very well. Crushed ceramic just 0,20€ per kg.

@@Rafasanp Looks like it's much more difficult than I thought. When I told my club members, they were all surprised about your effort. Good luck!
