Absolute weasel hiding behind every technicality possible. The wages he defends whilst paying others £4 an hour is absolutely sickening.

This is classic example of Modern day slavery. C.EO who wont get out of bed for £4.70 ph but expect British workers to accept it . This CEO highlights international staff he recruits because he knows asia he would recruit .

For a few moments the opaque nature of what happened at P&O, gets ripped aside. Exposing a man, who thinks it's moral to destroy livelihoods to get a bonus. I bet he's smug and happy in his insulated life.

What an appalling display of corporate greed and weazling around the issues when questioned. Since the sackings I have not and will not use P&O on principle. I've used DFDS a few times now and found them to be superb. People I know who have used P&O describe the ships as dirty, the crew as practically non existent ( apart from in the duty free shop) and the ships just having a poor atmosphere aboard.

Sure , he looked bad. But it is his job to take the flak and shield the owners of P&O. He will walk away from this inquiry with his head held high, change nothing and the shareholders will clap him at the next board meeting. Nothing will change and everyone involved knows it. Until the owners of P&O are held to account, this is a waste of time.

Down with capitalism
@davidsmith8728
@davidsmith8728 4 ай бұрын
It is capitalism which generates money, creates jobs. If, for example, the rail network moves from a commercial enterprise to being nationalised, the unions will see it as a bottomless pit of money and screw British Rail to the floor with pay demands. Fares will rise or the taxpayers will foot the bill. Either way, it will cost the government nothing - since governments don't MAKE money, they just spend it.
@leedowner2249
@leedowner2249 4 ай бұрын
@davidsmith8728 need creates jobs you don't need capitalism to have a job Rail services around the world are better ran and cheaper with more state involvement Private rail companies charge as much as possible and give as little as possible, that's how capitalism works so profits can be maximised, not at all conducive to good services when all that matters is the profit You're obviously anti working class and anti union, you'd let the fat cats run off with all the money, there's no benefit to that at all, only for the shareholders. bosses and their corrupt mates in parliament

@@leedowner2249 Look at the Miners' Union - They pushed wages up so high, it was cheaper to import coal from Russia. This is what happens with a nationalised industry.

@davidsmith8728

@@johnmc2514 Agreed - but they have to be reasonable. Look at the Post Office delivery sector. The price of postage as risen over the years to the point where people don't send letters unless it is absolutely necessary. Companies are moving to paper-free systems, people are using other means of communicating. Postmen (and women) will become a thing of the past and they are pricing themselves out of the market. How come UPS and other delivery companies can make a profit but the Post Office can't? - perhaps because the Communication Workers Union think the Post Office is a bottomless pit of money - but it isn't.

"In citing the average wage, which includes the exorbitant salary of the CEO alongside the modest earnings of the majority of the workforce, the company attempts to justify its low pay rises to core workers. However, this argument is a prime example of the fallacy of averaging. By merely calculating the average wage without regard to its distribution, the company overlooks the substantial gap between the CEO's compensation and that of the average worker. This fallacious reasoning attempts to obscure the glaring income inequality within the organization, failing to address the fundamental issue of fair and equitable compensation for all employees. Thus, relying on averages to justify disparities in pay is not only misleading but also absurd, as it fails to acknowledge the inherent inequities and undermines the value of meaningful wages for the core workforce."

Man who “runs” a multi billion pound company supposedly ONLY earns £508,000 a year (based on his disclosed 2023 salary and bonus, but undoubtedly more in shares, perks etc) or £250 AN HOUR (basing on a 39 hour week) try’s to justify paying his staff, who undoubtedly work 12-18 hours a day, poverty wages.

One is mindful of MP's who are paid a salary of £90,000 Plus, they don't have to clock-in and I doubt many perform a 40-hour week for that salary. They also have a very generous expenses account, not to mention their pension arrangements. They employ staff in their office to deal with their consituents. All-in-all, not a bad arrangement - if you can get it.
@apollofsx

@@davidsmith8728 you miss the point with fallacious argument. The argument here is based around comparing MP"s to CEO"s. Why can you accept the difference in the argument, let's stay on topic.
@davidsmith8728
@davidsmith8728 4 ай бұрын
@@apollofsx MP's look after number one. Look at Kier Starmer for example. He is the ONLY person in the UK who had a piece of legislation passed through parliament to protect his pension. Look it up - "The Pension Increase (Pension Scheme for Kier Starmer QC) Regulations 2013". CEO's have a fiduciary DUTY to their shareholders - the people who put their money into a company in order that the company can operate and make money - and, by the way, employ people.
