Pūpū Hinuhinu / Kāhuli Aku
This classic lullaby about the cowrie shell was composed in 1950, and was inspired by the black sand beach of Punalu`u on Hawai`i island. Kumu Kanoe’s own Kumu Hula, Leimomi I Maldonado always paired this mele for the beginning Keiki with the simple hula kuhi lima “Kāhuli Aku” which tells of the tree shells, the Kāhuli snails.
