You are a life saver my friend!!! Was ready to jump in both hands and feet to replace my engine thermostat, and after watching a video on how complicated that is, called local GMC dealership just to get a quote on the service work. After getting back up off of the floor, I decided that there goes my Saturday as I'm going to be replacing my engine thermostat "UNTIL" I saw your video. Went through the steps you show and immediately, this resolved this issue as you stated!!! THANK YOU for taking the time to share this information. You saved me much time, and possibly much $$$$ . . .

@@RayShelor well it's not a permanent fix but it solves it with no tools and pretty quick. I understand that GM has a different temperature sender in the newer models and it has a different range and so it doesn't keep throwing this code but I have not replaced mine because that temperature sender is in a terrible spot almost worse than the thermostat
@swen603211 күн бұрын
@@RayShelor also you only need to pull off the bottom connector of that computer you don't have to take the other two off. Good luck, thanks for looking! 😊

Sir, you have saved our summer. I almost spent time and money on replacing a perfectly good coolant temperature sensor. Thank you.

Wow! I am not a mechanic by any means. But, I thought I'd try this, and it worked on our 2021 Acadia ATV! Thank you!

I really feel this is a software issue. I wish GM would offer some kind of a update or something to at least fix or address this problem. I'm glad you had success!
@crystalreprogle62725 ай бұрын
I was/am having the exact problem. My dad and I were watching how to change the thermostat censor and thermostat, since i got both. Half way through the video my dad told me to just save my money and take it to a shop. Cause it's unbelievably ridiculous what goes into changing those. Well, I happen to see your video, did it, and it worked! But it only lasted for a week i believe. I'm getting ready to do it again though. Thank you for sharing this!!!

I have found you can just disconnect the lower harness only. I feel this is a software problem. If the sensor really was bad, it would not "fix itself" and read temp correctly just by resetting the computer. Glad this helped. 👍

Thank you brother. Just had to do this today, we'll see how long it lasts.

Do you have the part number on the updated Temp sensor?
@pamcm10985 күн бұрын
You can also pull the fuse, or clear the code with a scanner, but as soon as I drive 10 min at highway speed it trips the code again. Thermostat and temp sensor need to be replaced.

Thank you so much for this video. Worked just like you said!

Thank you for your video it work for me. Can you tell us if the problem came back for you if yes what did you do to fix it permanently.
@swen6032Ай бұрын
Well, it has come back randomly. I figured out you only have to remove the bottom harness to reset it. The Acadia forum says GM has a temp sender that has a wider range now so if that's the problem then a new sender might fix it but you see how hard that is to get to! I am trying different resistors in the harness to cause the gauge to read a bit higher and if that corrects it I will post that fix and what I did.

I was having similar issues. I had all those symptoms and then all of a sudden they were gone. I just had to remove the P0128 code and everything started working. If this happens again I'll try this. Thx.

Its the coolant temperature sensor change the thermostat while you're there you have to remove

Changed my sensor, drove the car 10 miles, and then it did it again. Now I'm going to change the thermostat. Do you know if the entire thermostat assembly has to be changed including the pipe??
@blancorivera46375 ай бұрын
@@JV-so2ch I changed both it never came back. But I kept my pipe I just slide it out the way but reused it. I only changed the sensor and the thermostat. It's a tight space but can be done. There's a KZbin video on a Cadillac with the same engine and that's the way he did it.

Have you had any more issues with P0128 since making this video?
@swen60327 ай бұрын
Yes, the problem came back. But I am very fast at removing just the lowermost harness and resetting everything. acadia forum has references to a software issue.

Unhooking ground cable on the battery and letting it sit for 5min or so will do the same thing. To actually fix the problem, you will need to replace the thermostat which requires removing intake manifold to gain access to stat. This is a common issue on certain 3.6L engines. GM is aware of this issue, but as usual they do nothing to help the customer...
@swen6032Ай бұрын
You are correct but this requires no tools and can be done quickly to get that AC working again. I understand GM also released a new temp sender with a different range to combat this however, that sender is as hard to replace as the thermo.

Mine came back after five weeks,2018 Acadia. This is a brain box issue . Things mechanical don't fix themselves when power is disconnected.
@swen60324 ай бұрын
I agree. That temp sender can't go bad and make the gauge drop and then 'fix" itself on a reboot.
