Thanks for the helpful video! About to order the part for my 2016 Acadia, do you happen to have a link to the wiring harness as well? Also, did any coolant leak out when replacing the sensor?

Glad you liked it! No, there shouldn't be any coolant that will leak out. Just make sure you do this when the engine is cold, do not remove the sensor when engine is warm otherwise there could be some to come out due to pressure. For the wiring harness, I believe this is the part you need: amzn.to/4djm94W ...however not unless you see if burned I wouldn't order it ahead of time as the majority of the time it's just the sensor. If you do remove and see the wiring is bad, most parts store stock the same part number. Just make sure you get the GM sensor ( amzn.to/49AYv2d ) as some of the aftermarket ones sometimes cause problems...the wiring can be any brand. Hope this helps.

Did you disconnect the battery before starting the repair? Did you have to drain the coolant before changing the temperature sensor?

No need to disconnect the battery. Also, as long as the engine is cold there shouldn't be any coolant coming out so no need to drain.

Im not positive the exact size, however you must use a crush washer not a regular washer. You can buy individual crush washers at your local store or an assortment online ( amzn.to/4evvTtU ) but typically its best if you have the old one to compare. You may just want to buy a new sensor as they are only like $20, and it will come with new washer ( amzn.to/3XBpDKn ).

Tried changing mine today. Black clip broke off. Now I'm gonna have to pay someone to replace. UGH.

Its ok that happens to all of us on occasion. Did you confirm that it will not lock in place? If not, try to connect the plug on the end of sensor (don't do it while installed test while holding) and see if it will stay in place. In addition, the extra red clip helps keep in place, but I have worked on many cars over the years that the red locking pin is missing and the plug still stayed in place. If it snaps in and doesn't pull out easily then you should be fine to use. If it doesn't, then you just need to replace the plug. You can either use a terminal tool ( amzn.to/4dJSjqR ) to pop the plug off and replace just the plug or cut the wire and splice a new plug on (similar to this, not sure your year: amzn.to/3YO4gYt ). If you go to your local parts store, they should have them in stock as it's a common problem. You can do this, good luck!

@TeamDIYNow The black clip broke off while Plug still on sensor. I'm unable to pull it off sensor and remove either from vehicle. So frustrating. I so despise car work.

@@paulburns3165 So the end of the plug where you would push to release the clip is where it broke? If that is the case, you should be able to take a small screwdriver on the front side and pry up. There's a little lip on the sensor that you need to clear and it will pull off. Also if you have a small wrench you can try to take off the sensor first with plug still attached so you have better access to see how to remove plug. I cant confirm without seeing it, but the fact that the plug is still connected may mean that the plug can still be used.

Do I have to reset something? After I changed it, the temperature gauge still stayed at the bottom and the “Engine Hot, AC Off” warning message stayed on and the fans instantly turned on even after the engine was already sitting for a while. Please help !

You can reset the light by disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours or using scanner. If light comes back on....Did you use the GM part (GM GENUINE 2134777 amzn.to/49AYv2d)? Aftermarket sensors are known to sometimes cause things to go haywire. Second, did you check to make sure the wire wasn't melted like I explained in video? If those all check out, then look into thermostat...what code do you have?
