P0400 Complete Guide - Nissan Altima 2001

Stumbled upon this looking for a breakdown of the EGR system on my neighbor's car. I was skeptical at first, miming motions, and nothing but Harbor Freight tools. I was cracking up at trying to open the multimeter one handed. But hell, that was the best explanation of a system and the easiest way to test every single part of it with a limited tool/skill set. Very Impressed, couldn't have been better.

Thank you, I my 01 Nissan altima se (140,000 miles) struggle during idle, not horribly but was noticeable. I watched your video after I got the same code. I checked the 1/4" hose under the EGRC-BPT Valve and it was complete off and torn to pieces from rotting. I got the hose from a local KOI Auto Parts in town, cost my .54 cents to fix my car! Thanks again!

Thank you so much. After cleaning the EGR valve multiple times and replacing it ($85), I saw your video and decided to check that hose you found cracked. Mine is cracked at the exact same spot.

Thank you so much for putting together such an informative video. I just got this code on my 2001 altima. Went out today and started with the same tests and took off the egrc-bpt and the same hose was cracked just like your culprit! Had some 1/4” hose in the toolbox and now it’s fixed. Great content!

Turned out the issue with my ‘03 Frontier was due to the same culprit: a rotted out 2” length of vacuum hose connected to the bottom of the EGRC-BPT valve. Thanks!

I got this code on my altima 01 and my car will turn over but won't start. I will try the things here in your video and hopefully my car will start again

My intake has a crack in it I think that's the reason why setting off its code

I've heard that more often than not, those hoses get carbon build up and need to be cleaned.
