I own a 2005 Chevy trailblazer. When the check engine light came on I took it to Auto Zone, plug the tester and the code was P0442. The Auto Zone ran a report and told me that I need to replace the EVAP Canister Purge Control Valve. So they sold me the part. But before I took it to the mechanic to install the new part I thought I can try and see if I change the cap to the gas tank will resolve the issue. A few years back I replaced the cap with an aftermarket one. This time I went to the dealership and purchased an OEM. I paid double the money but it fixed my problem. So I went back to Auto Zone and returned the EVAP Valve. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes to reset the system. It worked. The check engine light is off.

A bad gas cap will not trigger the gas pump to cut off. That's how you diagnose a bad evap solenoid

Everyone needs to remember that Auto Zone and all other auto parts sellers are not in business to diagnose nor repair autos. They are in business to sell you parts. Your fault code(s) may be caused by two or more different components that make up the circuit in question. At best they are guessing what is actually causing the fault code.

Do not use needle nose pliers to spread the tab legs on the white connector. On the other side of the connector 180 degrees from the tab legs is a tab. Push it down and this moves the lower tab legs down so the white connector can be removed.

That is the proper way, yeah. Can't always get a tool or your digits in there though so pick or pliers from the bottom will work in a pinch. If you do happen to break it though fishing a thin zip-tie will hold it secure.

It did, but you have to remember that a p0442 is a small leak. I got lucky. A small leak can come from a damaged vacuum line, faulty gas cap, or somewhere else in the evap system. If you can, try to inspect the system.

That's not how you unhook that white clip. The clip is made to be pushed in from the opposite side and pull the hose off.
