P0455 Chrysler EVAP Code Large Leak - Easy Fix

My wife arrived home from shopping and announced that the check engine light is on. That revelation changed the trajectory of the day. Got out my Cobra ELM 327 and discovered P0455 code. Then I found you while looking to see what the code meant. I did what you suggested, checking the gas cap. Turns out it was on but not rotated fully closed to hear the distinctive clicks. Guess I'll have to drive it a few times to see if it clears. If not, I'll know what to do thanks to your video. Thanks!

Thank you for watching, does your code reader allow you to reset the check engine light? If so then reset it and see if the code comes back. If not then like you say after you drive it around it will clear itself. I hope our video helped you, that is what makes it worth us making these videos. Once again Thank You!

@@thisoldmobilehomeinthewood8434 My scanner will clear codes but I didn't do it, hoping it might magically disappear. I what you recommended, and retighten the gas cap, expecting it to clear in a day or two. Well 6 days later it's still there. Didn't seem to affect performance any so I can wait a bit longer, not to be confused with procrastination. So I took off the cap and noticed that the nice, soft gasket seal on the cap was dirty/gummy. So I cleaned it off, and also the surface on the filler neck as it was dirty, not smooth. Reinstalled the cap. On day 8 (today, and two days after cleaning) during a short 5 mile the Check Eng. light went out. Nice! It was a dirty gas cap seal and filler neck causing the "large leak." So it looks like if you get the right remedy, after 2 days and maybe 35 miles, the PCM will clear the code. Thanks!

As for us it did but I don’t know about the other posters, it could be multiple things, many multiple things, we always start with the simplest and work from there. Thanks for watching we appreciate it.
