P06DD Code, Oil Pressure Sensor Fix

On many of the 3.6L Pentastar engines, you can access the oil pressure sending unit from the driver's side of the oil cooler without taking the upper and lower intakes off. I believe the socket is a 1 &1/16th deep well socket and use a 6 inch extension and you can easily swap out a bad sensor. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to do and helps prevent junk from falling into the open heads when you remove the intakes.

I have this code for a year now. I replaced everything back 2019 for my dodge avenger 2012. Including Oil pump, casket, oil switch, oil change and filter cost me A whole lot. It was okay and running fine after 6 months later, this code came back and It wont go away. I only drive it 2miles per day and only 96k mileage. Never again dodge!

Changed mine out for an aftermarket one. Good for 30k miles. Then the cooler went bad with an oil leak out the plastic so I changed the whole assembly about a month ago. The assembly came with a new sensor (oem mopar.) Now it’s throwing the code again. Gonna take the old aftermarket one and install it again. Mopar is skimping on the quality of their sensors for sure. I recommend going aftermarket on this one.

I had some issue but I didn't get 10 miles and the Code showed up so I replaced the new sensor that's came with them cooler with another new one and again then code came straight back.Oh for the love the Dodge Brothers what gives ?

There are many other known causes for P06DD. I would rediagnose rather than assume it is just another sensor.

My 2014 Grand Cherokee was dying on hard accelerations causing me to suspect a trans malfunction. P06DD was the code and no "low oil" indicator but I was about 3qts!!! low (dont know where it goes) I topped it off and then normal oil pressure was restored and seems to be prob solved. First Jeep owner- for better or worse!

On the journey you can change the oil pressure switch without taking the upper and lower intake manifolds off.

​@UNOTLK08 I first disconnect the oil pressure switch connector with long needle nose pliers. Next I use a snap on chrome oil pressure sensor socket because it's thin and I jiggle it on the oil pressure sensor and take it out. Reverse the procedure to put it in.

I’ve replaced mine last fall. Code went off. But every time I’m ready for a oil change the light will pop on for a few days throw the code then go off. After oil change it does fine, until it’s time for an oil change. Deal says everything looks fine when running diagnostics.

Other day i had check engine light came on..checked and showed code p06dd .. but I had another thing happened which I noticed is that normally on highway going 100 km /hr my rpm were around 1600 and after the engine light and code they are sitting around 2200 ...can that oil pressure make the rpm affected by it.. ?? @@stevev2851 to be honest im not sure if the oil cooler caused the lifter issues but i know that the code was because of the lifters. I did change the oil cooler thinking that would take away the code but no luck until i took the engine heads apart and found out that the lifters was the problem causing the code to come up. Funny thing is i really had no ticking noise prior to changing the oil cooler. Noise was a noticable after i got rid it. Good luck.

Hi, I just wanted to share my recent experience with this code on my Charger. TLDR; check that the new O ring is seated correctly at the very top of the filler tube cap.Fram oil filters come with a MUCH thicker O ring and mine wasn't seated correctly at the top of the cap. Put a thinner one ( the old one ) on it and no more error. I changed the oil and 2 days later this code popped up. I Changed the filter as suggested, I changed the oil just in case. I looked into replacing the whole assembly as was repeatedly suggested and even started preparing to replace the oil pump as was secondarily suggested many times. It ended up being a $.05 O ring not seating correctly and, I suspect, causing the filter to sit ****-eyed in the filler tube. Hope this saves someone a couple hundred dollars

I recently just got this code after doing some hard accelerations and the cel reappears almost everytime I reach 4,000rpm. I know the oil and oil filter are good. Are sensors and the repairs cheap? I've heard it'll reach into the $1,000+ range (with labor) and I want to save money where I can plus learning how my car works and learning how to work on my car.

I did it myself and spent $100 dollars, the sensor+12 gaskets for the lower and upper intake+ 5 "Ó" rings for the oil filter housing! Took me a couple hours, for skill level i think 3 (1-5). I have a '13 challenger, wich has that same pentastar engine!

P06DD the solenoid on the pump which OEM part will come with the complete Oil Pump. You will basically need to replace the oil pump

I had that code and replaced it with a Mopar switch and after a week the code came back on And yes i cleared the code after replacing it. I didnt have to remove all that, I was able to change it

I have this code on my Dodge Caravan right now. What I was going to do is go to like Jiffy Lube and have the oil change and the filter replace first since that's one of the most common problems if not then I guess I should move on to the sensor. My question is is this really a 3-hour labor job. Also is it safe to drive with this code on

When this code sets the limp home mode is to not have overdrive. You will see 1000 rpm more on the highway.

If you have to go to that extent your better of replacing the entire housing it’s not the censors that fails it’s the housing gets clogged and causing the water cooler to erupt through the gaskets I’m sure this is a temporary fix but they will be back with Coolant leaking down the valley of the motor. Bad oil cooler

It is usually just the seals on the cooler losing their elasticity at high miles and not standing up to the 80 psi oil pressure. I have seen people overtorque the oil filter cap and break the housing but that is the exception.

Hello there i had this code P06DD so i replaced the oil pressure sensor as the video but next day after the car was cooled down i got the code back again :S :S i always check my oil pressure gauge on the dashboard and it is pretty fine up to 500 no issue but when i get the code car won`t go above 3500rpm :S Please help me out thanks

hi morvy187. i had the same code on my jk wrangler. Dealer replaced the sensor and like you, the code came back. Now they say we have to change the oilpump, Did you ave any luck fixing the issue? You car not going up from 3500 rpm is a safety feature to protect the engine ( no direct relation with the code)

Ali Aldokhy Same problem as well. I replaced the sensor myself aftermarket. Code came back after a had acceleration. Months later driving hwy speeds. Tried to accelerate to get over and multiple lights came on. My CEL, traction, oil light and oil chime sound. Along with that my oil pressure began to drop. Went to 2 different shops. My own which I trust and my brother in laws fraternity brothers shop and both are saying engine needs replacing. Both changed the sensors and I even had the 4 solenoids changed cause 3 were stuck. I have even bought the oil pump just in case and they said they didn’t want to put it on because it wouldn’t be the solution. My car starts fine every time and the oil pressure starts around mid 60’s to low 70’s. I’m not sure if that’s where it should start but I can only drive for about 20 mins before the pressure is around 30 or lower then I park. I’m driving a 2012 Charger SE 109k miles. I added all that for you guys to be careful continuing to drive your cars and maybe someone can help us all with this added info. I had no symptoms before it all went to hell!!!

I got this code from my own scanner, and I have a Chrysler 200 C 2016. 98,000 miles. Bought this car used in Aug 2021 at 59,000 mi and everything seemed fine. Started overheating. Mechanics said it was oil housing. Changed oil housing and no more overheating. Forward to November 2022 and my engine light pops on. This code popped up, I googled it and there’s multiple things it could be. I’m like wtf bc the car drives fine.. but recent oil changers said oil housing is leaking again so idk what to do. It has nothing to do with oil pressure sender. It does for the oil pump pressure control circuit that is on the oil pump. Replace oil pump assembly.

No he didn’t I’ve taken apart my 2013 Dodge Charger SE. all you have to do is replace that sensor on the oil cooler. Don’t pay someone to do it all you need is some tools and KZbin it’s really not hard.

@@leecrumble3921 minimum RPM is in the 2800 range if conditions are met also such as temp, fuel level, etc. P06DD is oil pump stuck off and I believe thr AD code is stuck on. Most of the time it is NOT the pump itself, the PCM monitors the circuit constantly especially at on and off of the solenoid. Resistance is the windings or mechanical resistance like sludge or build up can cause the amps to draw more and the PCM to set the fault. I have noticed nothing ever wrong with the pumps themselves. Assuming your oil filter housing is not broken internally like the first style.

i'm a chrysler tech its seem that the 2014 and up are prone to leakage, never seen a 2011-2013 leak yet that i remember of. i know that they redesign the cartridge and housing in 2014 so i dont know if they mess up somewhere

I'm a tech in an independent shop, I did have a filter housing leaking on a 2014 Promaster, I thought it was because the quick lube was over tightening the filter cup causing part stress to get the thing loose.

I replace coolers alot and just the sensor u don't have to take it all apart for the sensor I change many of them in 10 minuts as long as it not leaking oil don't need oil cooler!!!!

@@DimeV3331981 on the battery side look under the intake there is a wire that goes to a oil sensor the horizontal one unplug it and then get a socket to fit the sensor take it out and then new one start it by hand then tighten it up by socket and plug wire in and your done some people pull the battery to make it easier but I don't
