Who defines what is too much? Allah does not put limits on wealth, just that it be acquired in a halal way (which would include environmental stewardship). Islam requires us to take care of the less fortunate. All this is the responsibility of the community (not of government).

He's right what Islam does for this issue in the form of zakat is definitely not enough. There is not and has not ever been a Muslim society where there were no poor. In fact, the whole principle assumes there will always be an abundance of poor for you to keep giving zakat. The idea of limiting how rich people can get seems like a better idea. If there is a minimum wage why not also have a maximum wage?

Zakat isn’t only for just poor people it’s for the whole system that the country works on. So no Zakat principles doesn’t assume there will always be abundance of poor nor can you say there was never a time where poor were non existent in muslims society. Many muslims countries are poor because of other factors nothing to do with zakat.

@@kaymenm2175 OK if zakat isn't only for the poor the guy in the video shouldn't even have brought it up as a solution to poverty. Which was the topic being discussed at the time. I can OBVIOUSLY say there was never a Muslim society without poor with even with a basic understanding of history. Look around at all the Muslim palaces around the world. People who lived in them were the Bill Gates of the Muslim world in different caliphates. And the vast majority of Muslims never lived like that. Islamic caliphates were basically feudal systems based on religion, with a caliph being at the top. Yes, many Muslim countries are poor and I never said zakat is the reason. My point was that it isn't a good solution. Even in the richest Muslim countries, there are some people with private jets and yachts while others don't even own a house.

@Mohamed Ahmed The richest countries in the world are non-Muslim. The countries with the least economic inequality are also non-Muslim. So I'm pretty sure it's not a better solution in "the real world" lol If you're going to claim Islam is the solution to a major problem all people face, first demonstrate that in a Muslim country. Otherwise, it's just empty words.
