My car is exactly the same as your 195K miles, the fuel tank leaked at the top so I had it replaced by the shop 6 months ago. Wish this video came earlier, no I did not wish this to happen to you :)

Hi there !! thank you, My car is exactly the same as your, same color but with 160K miles, question, How often do you service the transmission?, because mine has already started to fail and I want to know if you recommend rebuilding it with the Translab repair kit or doing the swap of the 07 Accord av6 transmission, how do you think?
@CarRepairsMadeSimple
@CarRepairsMadeSimple 2 жыл бұрын
i change the fluid every 15,000 miles and change the ATF spin on filter every 30,000 miles. You can check out my video on it for more information! Also check out my solenoid screen video as that has fixed a lot of peoples transmission issues! If you do end up replacing the transmission, and if you have the knowledge and ability to get the AV6, go with that route. It's a more robust transmission. The stock transmission isn't bad, it just takes a little extra maintenance and if you can take care of it properly, they should also have no problem lasting a very long time.

Hello again and HNY! I haven't messaged you in a while. As you know, I too have the 02 Tl Type S and your videos have really helped. Im experiencing a sluggish, 2 to 4 second crank start and then some sputtering idle for about 1 to 3 seconds after start then it smooths out. This symptom just started and I went to Autozone to have the battery alternator and starter checked which were good. Then I checked the power cable connections to battery which were also good. I fill up with shell vpower gas every other fill up and use 93 all other times. There is no problem with acceleration and i cleaned the spark plugs a few months ago. Any experience like this with your car? also i keep the intake manifold tb and iacv clean. any thoughts would be helpful. thks.

Thanks for being an awesome subscriber and watching my videos! Luckily I don't have any issues with sluggish starts or sputtering. Here are a few potential things I can think of, assuming you don't have any CEL codes: 1. Check the air filter is clean to ensure proper air flow. Should be replaced every 30k miles. 2. There's still a chance your battery is bad. How old is your battery and how cold is it by you this time of year? Car batteries typically last 5 years and the end of its life becomes more obvious and drastic in the cold weather. By the time you got to autozone, your alternator may have charged the battery enough to give your battery a passing rating. If you have a volt meter, check the voltage after letting your car sit overnight. 3. You mentioned you cleaned the spark plugs, but when was the last time you changed them? Cleaning only does so much since the key aspect to good spark plug electrical conductivity is sharp edges, which wears out naturally over time and can't be fixed with cleaning. I've never cleaned my spark plugs and replace them at the 105k mile interval as indicated in the manual and have never had a problem. 4. Have you reset your CEL codes or disconnected the battery recently? If so, this resets the computer and can result in poor idling for the next week while the car relearns everything. 5. Maybe your fuel injectors are dirty. Consider adding some Sea Foam to your tank next time you get gas. 6. Try getting gas from a station you've never been to before and see if that makes a difference. Maybe there's a bad batch that you've been getting recently. I also wouldn't worry too much about 91 vs 93 or ethanol vs no ethanol.

@@CarRepairsMadeSimple Thank you for the help. It makes alot of sense what you said about the battery and plugs. i did replace the plugs 3 years ago with the recommended plugs and cleaned them within the last year. Its funny the last couple of days my car started right up with regular idling. the battery has been in the car since i purchased it on January 2020. when i get a nice day and some time im going to take some stuff apart and clean the tb maf intake manifold trans solenoid screens etc. ill keep you posted🙂 Carchk

This is to do project coming up some time soon but would like to get most of all components you got , to be on the safer side , now would pb blaster work for bolts or better use what you use for them ???

I’m glad my video is able to help you! And you can use PB Blaster. According to a video by Project Farm, he compared a bunch of different penetrating oils and Liquid Wrench came out on top. His video also showed that while some oils work better than others, letting them soak for a long time is the most important thing to note when using these oils, 3 hours minimum to get any real results

@CarRepairsMadeSimple

I have not done the timing belt. That’s always been the one job I take to the dealership as it’s pretty difficult and a job you definitely don’t want to screw up since these cars have interference engines.

Designers and Engineers of this particular Acura TL model screw up the design and quality of the material used to make fuel tanks, because so many things have to be dismantled to get to fuel tank and it doesn't make a common sense , until they did it on purpose, so you have to go to the dealer and fix it there. Bunch of crooks !

Have you ever owned an American or German car? My TL is 22 years old and just experienced this problem 3 days ago. Otherwise, the vehicle has been mind-blowing for 130k miles (after I rebuilt the transmission at 70k). Yes, it's disappointing there isn't an easier way to drop the tank but it's not an old pickup truck and there isn't a ton of space back there to allow a free drop. Sucks that so many Japanese cars simply weren't designed with surviving the rust belt of the USA. Otherwise, I doubt people in California and warm places have this problem?
