Looks great, Dan. I get why people hate the faux laid decking, but it looks sharp and doesn't hurt anything, so it's all good in my book. Looks way better than just varnished plywood.

Very thorough restoration, Dan. Obviously, the deck construction had to be reasonably consistent with the original production boat, so the ply and vinyl strip finish is spot on. I can't understand why some people expected the sort of deck you will put on Temptress - that's in a different league altogether.

Your Craftsmanship is amazing! I did some composite and metal work as an aircraft mechanic. You took something that was almost trash and saved it. Beautiful. Wow, Dan, that looks amazing!!! I started following your channel when you first started on the Healey and have loved it ever since. The Gougeon brothers would be proud of You! 😁 I did quite some daysailors and small coastal cruisers from the forties, fifties and sixties that way in my time - usually boats we were "asked to remove" - and owners or yard-owners having "firewood" in mind. I always had my apprentices working on these restorations/rebuilds to showcase first hand what kind of bodging and sloppy preparing was to avoid, and what kind of "repairs" made things worse than before - nothing more instructive than digging inch by inch into bodged recent "repairs"; 😆 only thing I would have done way different was the "decorated" deck - we used Sapeli- or Kaya decklayerd boatbuilding ply and routed the grooves in situ on sailboats (the curved shape and "fish"-kingplank sitting perfectly that way) or on the table saw for motorboat decks, which then were filled with epoxied acer (maple) strips. We also developed our own vacuume-bagged ply, additionally layerd with thick pine (both sides) for boats which never had teak or mahogany deckplanks, and built prefab onesided deckply with epoxied wooden strip-planking for other yards to use on their projects. I always found the painted or adhesive strips way too anorganic for my critical eye. Anyway, magnificent work, and given what original Riva, Boesch and ChrisCraft boats do cost these days, each and every one of these runabout boats deserves such a thorough restoration. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful. I have an old 165 hp marine v8 that would be great in a boat like this . Says interceptor on the valvecovers
@garry726318 сағат бұрын
Personally, I would have replaced the keel if it looked like that. I helped my uncle rebuild a Chris-Craft that was very similar to that. I also think a better option would have been to use a router to cut the lines in the deck and then white 5200. She looks pretty though. Same color interior as my uncle's Chris-Craft.
@DanLeeBoatbuilding14 сағат бұрын
There is no keel in the boat, that protrusion is all moulded right into the hull as solid glass.
@carmium7 сағат бұрын
Beautiful craftsmanship and a stunning amount of patience! I have one question from out in left field (as we might say here across The Pond): This boat has steering and control on the left side, where cars here have their controls. All boats I've seen here - though I'm not a boater - have right hand controls, like an English car. Why the switch of sides between countries when you're not dealing with lanes on a roadway?

The plug you removed. Do you still have it. A polished bolt thru it. A nut then two ball bearings and another nut. Spin it against a belt sander. Varnish. A widget spinner for the boat owners desk at work.
