I have myself had this same problem with the Fw-190. You read stories about things like the Nowotny Schwarme, Emil Lange setting the Ace in a Day record of all time, and the sheer panic caused by the 190 in 1942... and then you get into a fight with a mustang where you have no advantage except roll rate and you wonder what the historical reputation was all about. The P-47 in IL-2 is purely a victim of the fact that engagements in that game take place at a bizarrely low altitude, which pretty much strips the thunderbolt of all of its advantages.

Exactly, the same thing is happen in War Thunder, where most engagements are at low altitudes, and you must use high speed tactics to get results. Also, ive almost any time outspeed german planes at low alt, but is necessary to keep high speed, energy and quite distance at fight to have time to accelerate, cause like in real tests maded between P-47 and Fw-190 , Jug get higher speed over FW, but in longer time, like was visible in this movie. And my plane was trimmed -10% nose down.

Have you tried IL2 1946? Have a look on Fishhy youtube channel He flies missions at high altitude and has a lot of fun with his friends, flying both Allied and German aircraft plus odd times Japanese aircraft.

Really? I found the D9 to be a beast of plane, easily one of the best fighters in il2

on il2 german planes is ace maker, there is no effort nearly required for out turn, out climb, out speed, even when you fighting a plane wich should be better on turn climb or energy easily 109 and some 190 can be push to perform better then should.
@hanswolfgangmercer
@hanswolfgangmercer 2 ай бұрын
@@chae_shoko I don't know if that's true. If you look at server stats, planes like the Tempest and P-51 tend to be near the top in K/D ratio. The 109 K-4 is up there, but the more ordinary G-14s and G-6s are middle of the pack. 190s do kind of badly, except for the D-9 which still loses to the P-51 consistently in these rankings.

Very interresting movie. Many thanks for sharing👍 What would be very interresting to see for me is the best defensive manouvers of de different planes in WWII

Interesting video and approprite reaction to the initial post on the previous video. I'd be curious to know which planes you have the most problems with in overcoming your confirmation bias (i.e. what are you personal favorites).

6:03 would it have been better to climb here? With the p47 being faster at high alt. Newish pilot

Without the requisite energy to climb I would have been eaten for breakfast by the butcher birds who had altitude. Climbing would have been certain death.

My two favorite ww2 planes, the P47 Thunderbolt, & the Focke-Wulf 190, compared to other planes, both planes actually have a lot in common…

I wish IL2 had a "reactivity" setting like MSFS does. That might be the most useful joystick setting for flight siming in a long time. In IL2 the Stang and the P47 feel almost exactly the same with some obvious artificial tweaks.

I love the Jug. I've had it to 590 in a shallow dive with the engine wide open, which it loves. Gotta be careful to let the speed build, not too steep or too shallow. But ain't nothing but a jet can catch you,

Great video! The P-47D is the only plane I struggle with in IL-2; for some reason I can’t make as tight turns as any other plane, and as such almost always drop out of the sky… that’s why I searched out and found your video. Do you have any tips for me? You seemed to handle the plane so well :)
@BlueMax109
@BlueMax109 Ай бұрын
@@lpcoolee honestly a big help is a force feedback joystick or a force feedback seat pad. So you can feel the onset of the stall and adjust your rudder input to compensate and get a nice tight turn. Best investment you can make for a difficult to handle beast like the jug.

@@BlueMax109 thanks for the reply! Funny thing, I've just wired up my NRL feedback chair to IL-2, and tried out the MC.202, and couldn't believe how I caught the imminent failure to fall out of the sky due to over cooking the turn (just before the failure). I never thought of the P-47D. Guess I'll give it a go :) - thanks again dude! Awesome video btw

Great analysis! iL2 has got it as right as can be in terms of Warbird handling and performance. While I fly DCS too, it’s got a long way to go to match the level of detail interns of the flight models employed by iL2 GB. Keep up the great work!

Really good presentation... learned something and one rare case where background music didn't make me click off and out right away and forget the video.. simpler than messing with volume control through out the video... good narration skills , choice of words and pleasant voice,,,, I'm back here and subbed for sure. I appreciate the comment and the sub. I worked really hard on the audio mixing to try and strike that balance as I grew up watching documentaries about warbirds that had a good musical score to back the narration so I wanted to emulate that. I have a host of other idea's for future video's and hopefully I will only get better as I get more practice narrating. Thanks again.
