It's weird how an optic can have a huge fov in feet, both be 3x magnification, and one 'feels' like a much bigger more immersive fov. That I belive is called APOV (apparent fov). Is is a premium optic eyepiece design and why elcans, acogs, and hensoldts cost double or triple. These are light because they have less lenses in the eyepiece specifically and can use a much smaller prism because of this. It's also why primary arm 1-8 and similar cost optics have good fov numbers but in use feel way harder to use after using premium lpvo

@ozarkman291 Жыл бұрын
@@thenamesPRINDLE I ended up getting the primary arms 3x and the 2x since the reticles seemed to be bolder and faster at speed than the vortex 3x. Also the bdc in the PA ones seemed like they were a lot simpler to use with my caliber. I prefer the footprint and mounting options of the vortex but mini acog mounts can still be found for not too much from eurooptic. I may pick up a vector 3x or more likely a 4x since they're affordable and the OEM for vortex prisms which is very interesting. I can't really say if I prefer the 2x or 3x though. I feel like about 200/250 and in the 2x is better and it certainly is faster up close. Past 250 the 3x is better for targets beyond 300 or so I'd prefer more magnification personally. For short to mid range I'm loving both though. Glass on the 2x is better but the reticle on the 3x is better. I feel like the 2x is kind of a red dot and magnifier alternative and the 3x is more of poorcog. I liked both enough to give up my lpvo (PST) and go fully to prisms. The weight savings and consistent sight picture with ffp reticle that stays good the whole way is awesome. If I want higher mag I'll likely just go to mpvo or higher honestly but that's beyond the scope of a gpr setup in my opinion. Anyway apologies for the blog post response but in too many words that's where I'm at now

I use one on my AR10. I wasn't expecting much for the night vision performance, but it surprised me. First magnified optic I've used that felt useable with a PVS14 on my head. My elcan OS4x doesn't work very well for me with night vision, and my acogs... Well the tritium causes a problem. The weight is why I bought it, as I was trying to get a fully featured AR10 down into AR15 weight, and it gets me there. If they went to a fatter chevron, no horseshoe, and with brighter illumination, I'd consider it perfect for what it's trying to do. It's pretty close as it is.

@@VincitOmniaVeritas7 The chevron is already extremely thin, if anything it could be significantly fatter.
@VincitOmniaVeritas72 жыл бұрын
@@skyhop really? Brass facts and Hop (the guys shooting in this video) apparently prefer a thinner reticle because the chevron kept hiding the targets between 50-200 yards. For its intended use, shooting human sized target (and not metal poppers at distance) this reticle size seems to work well. But it’s interesting you would prefer it thicker. Different folks, different strokes. I have a ACSS CQB red dot and the BDC is unusable without the magnifier behind it, because it’s so small at 1x. I wish the reticle was larger and the chevron thicker, like on a ACSS Vulcan seems to be.

I got one after seeing this review, very happy with it so far (in store pickup). I was on the fence between this and getting another PA GLX 2x prism (have one on an AK). Compared to that, this one has comparable glass quality but a tighter eye box (but what doesn't?). That said, it's a better eye box than any other optic I have in this price range at 3x. The reticle is pretty nice in it. It's not at all crowded and seems about the right size for a 3x. The only complaint I have is that the stadia and wind holds aren't illuminated. They disappear against darker targets as you'd expect. Biggest take away I have from it is that it's a truly tiny optic that doesn't seem to sacrifice anything to achieve the small size. The FoV, eye relief, eye box and optical quality are all pretty good at any price point, nevermind $320. FYI, my crappy scale shows it at 8.4 Oz with the standard AR height cantilever mount. That's just stupid imho. It doesn't seem possible. I recommend this over the Vortex Spitfire HD Gen 2 and Sig Bravo 3. I have both of those, so this is first hand experience. The GLX 2x is kind of a red dot/prism hybrid thing, so this doesn't compete directly. I think they are of similar quality though, maybe a slight edge to the SLX Micro 3x simply due to how awful the battery cover is on the GLX.

@@BrassFacts Heh, I went to the physical PA store here in Houston. They had a few open box/returns available. I grabbed that one. In non-fake conditions I can't see said spot and it doesn't hurt anything even when visible. @@cannabiskiisdead5360 First I'd have to disclose that I am an old guy that shot for 30 years with out any optics and only embraced even red dots on fighting weapons in 2016. I am a prepper and tinkerer much more than a shooter. This is also my first magnified optic on a fighting gun. It is on an 11.5" AR cheek pistol. I consider it a 150 yard gun that I sometimes stretch to 200 yards. Finally, I am left eye dominant, right handed, and shoot 'long' guns left handed. That said, to my eye, it has a clear and sharp image to the edges, it has a very forgiving eye box, and it only takes a few hours to get the hang of using such an odd magnification. Since it is a cheek pistol, I allow it to recoil straight back from the front contact point of my cheek being about 1" back on the buffer tube to almost where the left side protruding only charging handle is. I consider all of that 3" or so of travel inside the eye box. The reticle stays on the target as shooing this way even with the heavy (165 & 300gr) bullets I use causes very little muzzle rise. Oh, and jeez I forgot to say the the chevron is tiny and my old eyes can only resolve it clearly about 50% of the time depending on when I take my meds. I really just wanted a no astigmatism problem slightly magnified red dot and this is one. Sorry if this is too much non-optic related info.

I just picked one of these up and it's way better than an ACOG. Price aside, it's better in every way in my opinion. I LIKE!

The price is great. My 3x magnifier was $300, for context. However, I'm not a big fan of these types of sights for myself, so I wont be buying one.

I can't help but wonder what his take would be on the full size SLx 3x prism would be. It is a larger, heavier optic obviously, but I'd think it would have a better apparent/perceived FoV for scanning like he mentions. Plus, the reticle doesn't seem as potentially crowded as the micro prism, while still having an eye-drawing horseshoe/ring. Not sure about brightness or glass quality though, and I don't think it's got the shake-awake either...
@BrassFacts2 жыл бұрын
I didn't mind them when I used them But im of the mind of: at that point get a ACOG. Now they are pricy, but acogs hold their value well especially if you buy used. The upside of this thing is the weight and size. And that's a pretty nice combo for certain rifles.

Regarding the thick horseshoe, it might be better to have two horizontal stadia pointing inwards towards the center point of the chevron. i would want something like that pulling my eye to the center, but the thick horesshoe does kinda interfere with the target view. but its also useful for cqb soo..

I actually got to the point that I actually kinda prefer the close eye relief. Also, you can get 3 inches of eye relief with the acog and be fine despite what it says on paper

Off topic but I appreciate the terrain and moving instead of the classic flat range, even though that has its place, I prefer the more realistic environments conditions
@BrassFacts2 жыл бұрын
it's a whole other type of shooting. A lot of trends, and gear choices in my opinion are predicated around flat range style shooting. So it's good to get out here and see how things do
@AnthonyD1986 Жыл бұрын
Would you recommend this or a red dot for a beginner who will mostly just be shooting at the range with about 50 yards. Occasional outdoor shooting.
@elendal Жыл бұрын
At 50 you should consider irons. Ask someone at the range to try a red dot, they are slightly cheaper and they are good and you can always add a 3x magnifier. If you have astigmatism or like the idea of battery free operation this is a good option. There is no right answer. Training is more important. On my Tavor I have a red dot with mag plus I can still use irons, on my type 81 I've put a prism.
