Primary Arms GLX 2x Prism: Optimized for .300 Blackout

REUPLOAD: This video was nuked during the suppressor freakout. There's more prism content coming soon and this video will be a helpful reference.
PA's GLX series is the Goldilocks segment of the Primary Arms optics lineup. The GLX 2x prism is especially well suited to .300 Blackout and the AK platform because it provides usable holds for tragically unaerodynamic .30 cal rounds.

Dr Demo Matt said he spoke (pleaded) at length with his YT contact about the suppressor issue and finally got them to acquiesce. Does YT really pay attention to anyone or was this issue hundreds of guntubers complaining in unison?

Other then shorter eye relief, isn't the eye box a lot tighter on the SLx 3x vs GLx 2x?

So what optic did you settle on for your 300bo build? Maybe a smaller lighter 1-4x LPVO (vs a red dot + magnifier combo)?

@toddinfl Look at the crime rates of urban America. It's SHTF / anarcho-tyranny in those places daily. People living there just accept this as normal. It's anything but normal. People who sit around and wait for some SHTF scenarios are willfully ignoring what's already occurring in their faces. As I said, if you live in or adjacent urban areas, the regime in charge will bring politically motivated criminal charges against you for legally defending yourself. That's why people like you use qualifiers like some vague far fetched SHTF scenarios because you know, but won't admit if you exercise your right of self-defense, and even if you were 100% legally justified, the regime will throw you into prison regardless. There's no way to change the political and social situation in lumpenprole urban America. It's best to leave and relocate elsewhere if you value your life and rights.

I'm a big fan of 2x optics. Having just ordered an SLX 3x...I assume PA will release an SLX 2x just to piss me off. I found the lower power ACOGs to be really user-friendly, much more forgiving up close than the comparable 3-4x. I think a 2x version of the SLX could win a lot of people over for "just enough" magnification for a 200-yard defensive carbine without sacrificing up-close performance.

It could be awesome if more ammo manufacturers produced projectiles design for 300 BLK velocity out of a short barrel, rather than using an existing 308 design. The only supersonic load I find that is acceptable for personal defense that penetrates deep, expands big and consistently, and stays together, is the Hornady SST used in the Fiocchi SST ammo. There's also some decent subsonic loads from Gorilla/Lehigh, but subsonic rounds are still ballistically inferior. We need more competition for the personal defense market.

Glad to see the reupload. This optic is super usable. It would need a bit more FOV to make me truly happy as a choice for a defensive rifle, but I put it on a 10/22 with a compact stock and that is a hoot. On a .22 the chevron is in fact good for “all those tight groups [I’m] shooting at 50 yards” (cf. 5:10 ) It would also be cool on a light, short range hunting gun like a .30-30.

Bindon Aiming Concept is not bunk. Most people just don't understand it. For those of us that actually used irons to learn how to shoot, it is second nature. Try tracking a moving target with irons. Both eyes open to acquire target and then focus on irons when ready to shoot. BAC is the same, but instead of having to line up irons, use a dot. EZ PZ.

Good stuff, I did some wonky kinda set up with the pa cyclops 1x and a g33 3x magnifier. It actually works pretty damn good for what it is, have to play with the diopters for your eye on both to get it really clear but doable. Without the magnifier up it's really close to a etched reticle red dot with a ton of eye relief and with it up you basically turned it into a 4x power acog of sorts.

I have the 556 version mounted on my PSA 13.7" Jakl. Small/light enough to fit it in a bag on the Jakl while folded with a QD suppressor in another pocket. PA GLX x2 will let me unpack/assemble the rifle, shoot with both eyes open up close range, and the 2x magnification gives a little extra help out to the ranges a 13.7" barrel is expected to retain terminal performance. That "shake awake" feature is also not common on prisms or lvpos and is very much needed in those categories. It helps to minimize the lesser battery life of these systems compared to red dots. I've kept my brightness set to 9 or 10 for minths now without turning it off once. No issues yet.

I love my GLx 2x 5.56 on my 11.5" - sure, 5.56 *can* stretch out past 200 on that barrel, but its not ideal and optimized for it. Just like sure, I *can* get more magnification for the gun, but again - something like a 4x ACOG or a heavy 1-8x LPVO is not optimized for it And yes, a red dot + magnifier is a good fit, but the rugged lightweight simplicity and no-battery functionality of a prism is a huge plus, and its extremely easy to use the GLx 2x like a red dot makes it suuuch a nice optic choice (a 3x prism is much harder to do this with)

It's very hard to Bindon on anything with magnification because your brain has to fight two images of different focal lengths. It's possible but not as fast or intuitive. The concept however is real. Take a red dot sight and tape the objective lens so you can only see a red dot on a black screen. Aim at a target. Your brain will totally fill in the background with your other eye and superimpose the red dot. It's helpful to have a super bright aiming reference to attract the primary eye to your brain.
@revvyishonisd5027
@revvyishonisd5027 10 ай бұрын
@@Argentum88 yeah the magnified image scrambling your brain is how it acts like a blacked out red dot when moving your point of aim from target to target at close range. Your brain automatically switches to your non dominant eyes viewpoint when the motion blur starts, only leaving the stationary bright reticle. Then when you steady the rifle it swaps back. For a magnified gun sight to solve the close range / long range problem like this before mini red dots and LPVO’s it’s really quite ingenious and it’s absolutely a viable solution. There’s a reason the ACOG was/is such a successful force multiplier and you still see people clearing trenches with then in Ukraine today. Sure it’s obsolescent but not because it doesn’t work well. It’s just a little more difficult and less intuitive than a piggyback 1x or LPVO so it’s been supplanted by them. A guy with just a slick acog and more training would absolutely shoot faster and more accurately than someone with the latest and greatest lpvo or piggyback optic solution with less training. Consumerism won’t bridge the small gap between the capabilities achievable between the two methods.

I hope prism optics don't disappear... I have really bad astigmatism, and I've spent thousands of dollars on red dots just to find that literally every offering currently available simply DOESN'T WORK FOR ME. Currently using a See-All Micro, and that thing is a goddamn godsend. Once you get past the small learning curve, it's basically an aimbot. I'm more accurate and faster at getting rounds on target with it than I ever was with a red dot. Only problem is I can't magnify it, so I still need prism sights and scopes. Wish they would make a 1x like an LPVO, with an illuminated reticle that is actually useable without illumination... my problem apparently isn't the illumination, it's the lack of a physical reticle. An etched reticle and the problem disappears entirely. Now if I could just find a etched reticle with the form factor of a T2 or a RMR. I'd be set.

You should try the Vector Optics Paragon prism scopes. I'm curious of your take on it.

300 blk is one of those rounds that is really awesome, but I think some people are trying to replace proven rounds with it. I have 556 and 300, but I know that my 300 is more for

I enjoy the 4x32 300 ACOG. 10” rifle with supers is a 500m fighting rifle.

People talk about 300 blk like it’s no good past 100 meters. I shoot mine to a few hundred meters with a 4x ACOG, and it’s not bad at all. 600 meters is totally doable without drama.

You should try the Monstrum prisms. Low cost. Not sure if they work with night vison though.

I'd like the SLX3x with a 22lr reticle if it existed. Wonder if the 9mm version could line up in any useful way

This has me wondering, are there any red dot magnifiers out there with BDC reticles? Or is there some reason why that's dumb?
