Sericulture or silk farming, is the cultivation of silkworms to produce silk. Bombyx mori is the most widely used silkworm for sericulture. Silk was believed to have first been produced in China as early as the Neolithic Period. Sericulture has become an important cottage industry in countries such as Brazil, China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Russia. Today, China and India are the two main producers, with more than 60% of the world's annual production. Tamilnadu is one of the leading state in sericulture or silk farming.
பட்டுப்புழு வளர்ப்பு அல்லது பட்டுவளர்ப்பு (Sericulture, அல்லது silk farming) என்பது பட்டு நூல் தயாரிப்பதற்கு வேண்டிய பட்டுப்புழுவை வளர்க்கும் முறையைக் குறிக்கும்.பட்டுப்புழு வளர்ப்பு கம்பளிப்புழு இனமான பொம்பெக்ஸ் மொரியே (Bombyx mori) பெரிதும் பயன்படுகிறது. புதிய கற்காலம் தொட்டே சீனாவில் முதன்முதலாகப் பட்டு தயாரிப்பு செய்தாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. பட்டு வளர்ப்பு என்பது பிரேசில், சீனம், பிரான்சு, இந்தியா, இத்தாலி, ஜப்பான், கொரியா, மற்றும் உருசியா உள்ளிட்ட நாடுகளில் முக்கியக் குடிசைத் தொழிலாக உள்ளது. இன்று உலகப் பட்டு தயாரிப்பில் 60% இந்தியாவிலும் சீனாவிலும் தயாரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
