Hi Ben, I've been watching the videos for while now and often kept an eye on your channel, welcome down south! You flew not too far from my old home airport and the place I gained my PPL, Goodwood. If you're keen to do more flights down southwards I would recommend a visit, it's a lovely aerodrome. Unfortunately I'm not flying from there at the moment as I'm completing my ATPL training down in South Africa, if you fancy a slightly longer cross country then please feel free to visit. Anyway, keep up the good work and happy landings. Ray

+Plane Old Ben, Thanks very much, it's going well so far. It's a definite must visit, I'm hoping to be finished here and back in the U.K sometime after September/October. So if you fly down around that time let me know

I enjoyed that. What's going on at 38:44? The nose gear of the aircraft to your left side was being retracted. Great video. Many thanks.

It's a Varieze and that's how you prepare it for departure! Pilot body weight lifts the nose once you're in.

You went right over a stop and hold position. Was your clearance to go park enough to do that. I am not used to controlled airports?
@abdulmismail Жыл бұрын
Only came across this video (6 years after it was posted). I've flown with my instructor to Blackpool but it was a MATS penetration via Wharton but I noticed after leaving Blackpool, you tuned directly to Liverpool Radar/Approach. Why is this? I assume it was because you flew this on a weekend when Wharton was closed. Also, South of Liverpool airspace, you climbed to 5,000ft and above cloud cover - so I assume you had an IMC rating? Cheers, Ab
@lashamgliders7 жыл бұрын
Great video as always Ben, but weren't you able to go a couple of hundred feet higher though to keep out of the bumps/clouds/thermals near Lasham and Odiham ? Can get very congested there with traffic as you saw.
@PlaneOldBen7 жыл бұрын
+lashamgliders Id have had to climbed another 500ft or so which would have put us right underneath controlled airspace. Being slightly lower enables us to be able to observe what was going on in the area, I also had to descend not long after to get into Shoreham.
@briboy20097 жыл бұрын
Great video, I would be very comfortable flying with you. I took my one and only flying lesson at Shoreham a few years ago as I only live a few miles away. Its a quaint airport that has seen its share of tragedy recently with the airshow crash. I miss those airshows I must say.

Hey Ben, nice video good to see my Airport on your channel, you managed the busy RT very well as usual. Hope to do my PPL test there in a few weeks, all exams done . Then I want to do the reverse flight, nearly, and head to Liverpool, have you flown into there yet?
@PlaneOldBen7 жыл бұрын
+kevin Darby good luck finishing your PPL! I've flown from Liverpool a couple of times but watch out of the £80 landing fee due to mandatory handling.
@kevindarby14527 жыл бұрын
Wow 80 quid, what about Woodvale. I have seen you fly into there, can you do an overnight stop, that is closer to family anyway but with it being an RAF base was expecting it to be unavailable for that?

I really enjoy watching your video,s always full of good information and quality recording, something I struggle with is the fact that you do not use checklists, especially given that you could never pass a PPL flight test without using them, a bit like now you have your licence your going to now set your own standards, many a good pilot has gone before, through not using them.
@PlaneOldBen7 жыл бұрын
+wayne elliott I use the checklist for pre-take off and power checks to make sure I don't miss an item but don't need it for the remainder. I've started to edit out a lot of the checks now as I don't think people want to watch them it's more about the flying!
Great video, are you uploading the return flight budddy

Excellent vid. I've recently started my own PPL training (3 lessons in) and watching your channel along with flightchops and Steveo1kinevo finally got me to take the plunge and go for it. If you're ever up towards Durham Tees Valley, I probably owe you a beer :) I'm still waiting for the first flight to take me above the cloud base but the instructors are pretty keen to keep away from it for now haha. On a side note, how do you find the PA28? I few the C152 for my first with 2 more in the PA38 which I prefer. How does flying the larger aircraft compare or do you not really feel it once you're in the air? All the best
@PlaneOldBen7 жыл бұрын
+Beefej good luck with all your training! The larger aircraft feel heavier on the controls but more stable in the cruise. I think learning to fly in a two seater is great as they are easier to control but not so great for long distance flights.
