Poor Elvis, was obviously not well, at this stage, he sounds confused, and breathless, but when he sings, it’s like it’s sent from heaven ,what a voice, brilliant entertainer! No one can compare to Elvis! A lot of people let him down , and used him! Sadly missed! But we still have his music!! ✌️

@@ramencurry6672 People didn't really think that way in 1977 though. He would have been put on diet pills and cold turkey drug therapy that would have killed him just as quickly. Like Marilyn, Elvis was sacrificed on the altar of popularity, used for profit by those around him while those who loved him were pushed out. An American tragedy.

I'm a third generation lifetime Elvis fan. As a teenager in the 90's I even had his posters in my room and had my senior photo taken with his portrait as my backdrop. My friends thought I was so odd for this, but I know beauty and passion when I see and hear it. This song in particular just tears apart and heals my heart at the same time.

When he's speaking, he's like a dying man 40-50 years older than his age of 42 at the time. When he's singing, he's transported back in time and gives all his life force to this performance. It's unfathomable how he was able to put together that much of a performance in that state and is a testament to all the talent and commitment he had. He was almost literally singing himself to death with any and everything that still remained within him.

It wasnt live. It was pre-recorded. You can see it when he broke at the end. Probably was still his voice, but a studio version. He was just meant to play along. Its sad how many in the comments will say how absolutely used he was (and he was), but not see the detail that by the end, he couldnt even perform live anymore, and its a question on if he was just a puppet for the another artist hired by the Colonel; singing songs for him in Elvis' tones, and left uncredited.
@alexdanalibaba5085
@alexdanalibaba5085 11 ай бұрын
@@schribbler1592 This particular video is pretty weird. The vocals seem to be live but the instruments aren't. If you compare with this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZfRi5Wge7WGqLc, which sounds like a raw live recording, you can tell it's the same vocals. In that version at roughly 3:34 he quickly says something like "hang in with it", and in this video you can hear the same thing at 3:18. The instruments here, including both Elvis's piano and the band, seem to be added later and are frankly a lot better than the original. They also seem to have stretched out his final high note in both versions for some reason, as you can hear him do a sort of "throat sound" and visibly stop singing at the end lol. The overall quality of the recording is also way better. I'm guessing they just touched up the entire performance to be even more powerful, as this was his final show as far as I know. Still, the vocals seem to be relativly untouched and it's pretty amazing that he was able to sing like this just a couple of weeks before he died. It's because of this I consider him one of, if not the best signer ever.
@aw_1977

Yep this WAS an original performance but was heavily edited later to make it sound more.... emotive, well-rounded. Especially the ending. The original one is equally powerful but it a more raw way.

Me too! I watched the movie about 10 times already and every time that scene gets me. Besides, I've read something about that performance; it wasn't in the concert schedule but Elvis absolutely wanted to sing it, as he loved Unchained Melody, but the band wasn't ready as they didn't have the time to do the rehearsal for it. So Elvis said, I will do it just myself at the piano, as long as Charlie (Hodge) shows me the accords (Elvis played instruments by heart as he was self-taught, you probably know it). During that concert, all musicians were worried about him as his blood pressure was sky high, along with many other health issues and the notes of Unchained Melody are high, so they put him under pressure for breathing and Elvis has already started to suffer from emphysema. But as always, he did want to do his best for his fans and went ahead and sing it.

man it’s sad to see an amazing artist deteriorating like this all due to someone they put their life and trust in their hands … the manager and even his father. It’s amazing he was so short of breath and sweating bullets and was able to sing so beautifully. now i’m much younger only in my 30s but i feel that this performance he sang his heart out because he knew it may be his last and he loved his fans dearly and he wanted to give them his all for one last time . i’m shocked he wasnt crying during this . This performance alone will make you become a fan . you can feel his love and his pain at the same time ❤

This is so sad. Elvis is clearly unwell here; at first he's sweating, exhausted, and can barely speak coherently. It's no surprise he passed away only two months after this. But then the song starts, and he completely transforms with that beautiful, otherworldly voice that he always kept. Even in his final days, he never stopped being such a legendary performer. RIP King.

It’s as if he knew his time was up and and he was saying, farewell to the world. Whenever I hear this rendition, I imagine him walking up a flight of stairs to heaven, and that last note is the gates opening as he sends to the sky with wings what a beautiful way to leave the world.

I loved him when he was alive, cried when he passed too young & still love him today & forever. No one will ever sing as he did. Today's singers, don't sing, they make non sense noise that gives me a😢 headache, never will there be a talented person like Elvis. Now he sings like an Angel in heaven.❤❤❤❤❤❤
