I'm very thankful that this 1961 was posted. Version that is. I once had the reel to reel to this rendition of the Pachelbel canon. I loved it.

This is the very best of all the recordings of this gorgeous piece. I am a musician, and I had never heard it until I went to the movie Ordinary People. It was love at first hearing.

english version: I have heard the Canon as a teenager nearly 50 years ago from the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester ans Karl Münchinger in the audimax of our school. It was from the beginning an enchantement and a relevation for me. This was the fundament of my futural favour for ancient music. The canon ist perfect and worldmusic too. You can hear it even today in Pop and Rockmusic. By the way: the canon was played in Hamburg at the funeral ceremony of Loki Schmidt, the wife of Chancelor Helmuth Schmidt, as the last piece of music at the end of the service.

I just checked and this lovely piece is available on several CDs, but I would try to find this Munchinger performance. It is the best of the best. If you really like this Pachelbel Canon you most probably will really like the Samuel Barber Adagio for Strings. First heard yet in the movie Elephant Man. It’s another gorgeous piece, but a little sadder than the Pachelbel.

Karl Munchinger redid the canon later on but to my way of thinking, he took it a tad too fast and didn't come up to the original 1961 version.

I like this version best, Karl Münchinger and Stuttgarter Kammerorchester. I've got the same version in a different LP from yours. Mine is a Baroque assortment. But these days my analogue media like LP or MT correct dust (that can't be right !). So, it's been long since I last heard this tune. I'm not a music expert, but you can hear the basso continuo more clearly than in other versions. And each melody going together is terrific. Anyway I like this best.

@Brandon - You will hear this at thousands of weddings, and probably some funerals. It was even used in a Sylvania light bulb TV commercial many years back.

Was this version ever released on CD. I had the LP in the 1960s, but sadly is has long been lost.
