Canon in D is my favorite music of all time. I learned how to play it on the piano when I was a child. When I first heard the Russian National Anthem, I didn't realize at first that it was based on Canon in D. I just fell in love with the tune. Now I know why. I also love many modern songs based on Canon in D, like Memories, Freaks, 628, Basket Case, Welcome to the Black Parade, Graduation, and so much more.

Look, the chordal similarities are there -- but the melody and arrangement and phrasing and words make it a totally different thing.
