Thanks Peter!! Googled a fix when my stapler stopped working.. I ended up zip tying mine closed (which works a treat) as I couldn't figure out how it stayed closed before I opened it even though there were no broken metal parts. So grateful as I was in the middle of a diy project I was able to finish thanks to your video.

Thanks for the video. I just repaired my Rapid 33 using your video as a guide. The plastic piece should be 3 mm in thickness and exactly the same size as the square metal part (roughly 21.5 x 21.5 mm)

From one kiwi to another: thanks for saving me $85. I made my replacement Teflon chip out of two layers of some plastic from a ring binder and it works beautifully again Cheers!

Thanks Peter, if I hadn't come across this video, would have probably tossed it in the bin. Had a bit of fun trying to get the right piece of plastic, but finally cut and shut it and it works great again!

If you find after making the repair as described, the staples fail to move forward to a position under the anvil after operating the handle, it is because the actuator does not retract far enough for the staples to slide forward. Need to reduce the thickness of the plastic/teflon replacement piece to allow anvil to retract further.

Thanks heaps Peter, for a Kiwi number 8 wire type repair. I was doubtful this was going to work as I could not find a worn packer when I pulled the stapler apart. But having faith I inserted a plastic packer, and it works a treat. Luckily I watched your video before attempting to pull the stapler apart as I was about to make the same mistake and force the retainer clip, thinking it needed to come out first.

Thank you for this. We found 4 little bits of plastic inside ours. I would love someone to show me that these are not designed to fail. I see no reason for plastic. I could not find a parts list anywhere online. I used a hacksaw, file, and digital caliper to make a replacement steel plate. The existing is 3mm I made one 1/4 inch or 6.35mm. Perfect and I don't expect it to fail in the near future. Jim

Thanks Peter for the instructional video. We had a broken Rapid 23 Fineline (at least 40 years old) and this turned out to be the problem. Using the existing metal plate as a size template, I replaced the smashed plastic (where did most of the bits go?) with a piece of 2mm thick timber-look vinyl flooring. I tried doubling up the pieces but 4mm was too large and would not fit in the gap. Also cleaned the unit, replaced the grease, and reassembled. A little grease on the inside of the cover and the pin certainly helped with the reassembly as the fit was quite tight. Given the comments of others, I was concerned that the 2mm thickness would not be enough, but it appears to be working ok stapling 8mm staples into hardwood, though the handle goes down slightly lower before firing the staple.

I had the same problem and your video helped me fix it. I cut 3 squares from an engine oil bottle to match the thickness of the broken plastic part. Not only is the oil bottle flexible, it will also be grease proof. Thank you

Brilliant work buddy. My stapler suddenly decided to not staple - and a bunch of plastic bits fell out of it - the percussion plate. What I did discover was if you remove the handle pin and slide the front section up, it releases the clasp at the bottom - saves having to do the split pin fix.

**TO DISMANTLE, REMOVE THE ROLL PIN FIRST** then you'll find the end cover can simply be slid upwards, and unhooks from the clip that pulls towards the body. I have to say I'm not too sure about that split pin, as it needs to hold the front cover exactly snug against the body. I was hoping to find exactly what material is used for the spacer under the spring. I used mild steel to double up the little steel square, but I reckon it should indeed be plastic,

Thanks for your advice Simon. I couldn't figure out how to get the cover off until I saw your comment. I also couldn't figure out how to keep it on once I fixed it as there were no visible broken parts other than the plastic inside. I ended up using a zip tie which worked perfectly.

Thank you - just fixed my 34 following this - must be 20 years old! Could be even more. Only thing is I have to apply a little forward pressure on the trigger to keep it engaged on each 'fire'. There must be a tension spring or something missing - any ideas. Thanks again

Hey mate the adjuster on the depth has stopped being able to slide back and forward. So I have to use a hammer now to sink the staples into timber. U gout any clues how to fix the slider. Cheers

Thanks very much….all fixed, though mine is tapered at the bottom which meant that without removing the tab (which breaks), it is almost impossible to get off. Still don’t know how to get it off without breaking it, though now it’s secured using a zip tie, so won’t be an issue in future 😉
