I wonder if people who comment on Lee Minho speaking Korean realize that they do exactly the same thing as Japanese and Americans in Pachinko, being self centered and opressing other cultures. He doesn't have to speak English if he doesn't want to. This whole show is about respecting people who are different from you. If you liked the show, reflect on this

I understand the importance of speaking Minho's own language, and I am deeply supportive of him and his career. However, if he wants to do more Hollywood and international movies, he will have to have more facility with English. It's simply that more people in the world speak English. If he wants to go to the next level, he's going to have to work on that. I would volunteer to help 😅😅. He is very hard working and can master conversational English if he wants.

I am Korean and want to say to Japanese folks that this drama is not about being anti Japan. Reconciliation starts from admission and confrontation as it has to built on the trust. I think most Koreans do not hate Japanese, and we all know that Japanese are exceptionally good people. But, there is some nature of isolation especially regarding history between Japan and Korea. We dont need to fight. Please enjoy this drama. It is not just about Korean immigrants but also about Japanese and in general all human beings struggling against the harshness of the history. It all happened and it can be a sound and healthy foundation of our relationship.
@yeongm15312 жыл бұрын
Basically I agree with you. However, there is clearly something to point out. Any human being can do bad things. It is important to acknowledge and correct past mistakes. Even now, Zainichi Koreans are living with enduring discrimination and contempt. This is not an individual mistake, it is a problem for society as a whole. There may be bad Koreans and there may be good Japanese. But this is not the point. Lee Min-jin, the author of this novel, said during a lecture: Man is not evil, but dishonesty is evil.

I think it’s important for people to watch asking questions like “so how did history unfold so that no one had access to these types of historical contexts (or had access only to opposite fictional historical contexts)? and what factor”s” led up to most of the western society never even hearing about real Korea (or the version told by whoever was in charge after these wars). Not just a simple ‘well probably because of financial instability or country being ground zeroed to be weak after that invasion and wars.’ Because of the recent rise in kdrama/k cultural consumptions as well as information being more readily acquired, people can finally get to see the things that were left out and kept from them to this day. I have not seen much history papers written in English that is not based on skewed and biased information that was told while Korea was kept quiet and had to be focused on rebuilding up from the country and people literally being robbed for decades. And the important questions about “the root of why japanese tried so hard to diminish Koreans and their history” and how that relates directly to the truth that’s actually quite the opposite of their statements.

@@Flying-Chicken definitely a lot of asian countries like Indonesia was impacted too. As the history still doesn’t stand corrected or yet only superficially, a lot of asian countries still remain impacted as well as the western view towards Asia that was impacted due to how history unfolded after ww2. Besides the economical impact, the sociological and cultural impact as well… most asian countries have been impacted with history untold. We all need some finding and mapping out the truth. In this instance, I’m focusing on Korea because of this novel and tv series being set in korea. Even though there are similar categories of war crimes and sufferings at most victim countries, there are differences and different characteristics of what happened in korea. For instance the war and invasion of Korea started in the 1910, where as the attack on Indonesia was 1940 and on China 1937. As many people suffered at the war front countries, those acts were already in place and systematized only to worsen for at least 35 years in Korea. I’m not saying war sufferings should be compared at all in aspect to time or instances as all committed crimes were horrible. But there are contexts in Korean history that can help the characterization of that time period more accurately by looking specifically into what happened in Korea before, at, and after those 35 years. For example, during that 35 years, how there have been so much destructions and robbing and even fabrication of records and artifacts of ancient kingdoms of korea that had clearly been strong influence of what japanese advertise as to come from themselves or never existed. Pachinko also does a good job in explaining from what mentality they destroy invaluable artifacts that would have been the one and only in the world and showed signs of superiority. Some of which were found years later at museums in japan falsely labeled to have come from japan. They had 35 years of invasion and even after to prepare for tweaking historical records. That’s one of the many ways that makes it a current day problem. More of the reason why Korean history then couldn’t be told well to western society when records were hard to be saved. The historical contexts of what Korea meant to japan at then is one of the reasons for the different characteristics in destruction and cruelty they had towards Koreans. And as I wish for history to accurately represent all Asian countries too, I think it’s also important to be specific while we r at this topic about Korea. I also want people to get to know what Korea was before these times as I think that’s important to understand that even though Koreans suffered so much at the start of contemporary time, they themselves must know they had kingdoms and dynasties that were peaceful and had a one of kind of culture in Asia for millennia too before then.

As Hansu is a fictional character I would think that many secret love situations similar to Hansu and Sunja had transpired. Going through that with the understanding of Korean culture must have been a very painful and emotional time as well as a great one., especially for the woman. Survival is DEEP and tricky for all time.

Though I've not seen the whole episodes but the first three episodes are so amazing, I believes as the world keeps changing, everyone keeps trying to know more about their histories not in other to revenge,Lol😀 of course that's not it 😀but to get more familiar with their origins. And also,for others to learn about different cultures,I must say this Drama also is of help🥰 For someone like me who loves to explore other people's cultures I found this helpful and motivating 🥰 We all know about Africa colonization back then,I wish they can make that into drama also for every generations to see,cause this is US and our History it can't be buried👌. Big thanks and Kudos to all the Casts,you guys did a great job 👏👏👏👏👏 Please don't mind my English, cause it's not my mother tongue

To be honest, this seem to be like an Oscar worthy show, but I'm cringing to see it, as it is such a heavy story, and to see Minho being "bad", I don't think I am really prepared for...

It is very shameful that the main actor was only criticised for his English pronunciation. This is our society who judges people according to their appearance not by the talent 👏👏👏 . Is the host of the interview show able to speak fluent korean language like the Korean people?
