The handbrake thing is standard for most games that involve cars, My Summer Car, The Long Drive, even the Slaverian Trucker got handbrakes. Most vehicle building games also got it from pure physics, if you forget to assign some sort of device to engage the brake your car will roll down. It's not that hard to implement.

From what I've seen, this looks like a walking simulator, masking itself as a survival game. I'm guessing its going to be very linear, trying to fake being open-world, and tacking on crafting/survival mechanics, to tell its indie-walking-simulator story.

Early access is a way to keep up the sales. Once you release the game, you might see one more sales peak after which it will slow down. There are enough people who like playing and following early access titles. You're just not in that market.

Games are slow to make in the first place, and there's a very little portion of actual good indie games that are worth the shot on Steam (even the ones that get a lot of attention and are played by streamers are usually not that great), So, when finally, a good game like Pacific Drive releases, I don't mind at all supporting it even if it takes 5 more years to be fully completed

I like to explore, like to overcome difficulties, and like the feeling of having learnt the world and built the tools to achieve it. So the difficulty is not combat or grind, but understanding the world you are in and being smart about what you are doing. This is actually the best game design.
