The Pacific Koel bird call is a very unique and loud "COO - EE" type of sound, that is very recognisable in the Australian summer time. It could arguably be the noisiest and more persistent calling bird....
The Pacific Koel (also known as the Eastern Koel) migrates north during the Australian winter time, to either the Solomon Islands, East Indonesia, or Papua New Guinea, and returns to Australia for the Australian summer time.
Its bird song/call which is captured in this video is extremely loud, and often persistent for many hours, and the Pacific Koel is often referred to as The Stormbird, due to its birdsong often occuring prior or during rain and stormy weather.
As obvious as the bird call of the Pacific Koel is, it can be difficult to see, as it tends to use foliage and vegetation to provide cover and concealment for itself.
The red eyes, and black body of the Pacific Koel, make for a forboding (almost Halloween-like) figure.
Join me and let`s see this amazing bird and its unique birdsong.

This sound instantly brings me back to being a young kid. Waking up early on a summer morning in Sydney Australia. Thank you for making this video so I can hear it in the winter!

We have this here in Singapore and many of us here wish it wouldn't yell its lungs out at 4am in the morning when most of us would otherwise be able to sleep a little longer till 6am or so. While it keeps our crow population in check years ago, many now prefer our authority to cull the crows instead of introducing this annoying bird here.

Very similar here…..extremely noisy, but heads north at the end of our summer (March) and returns around September (our spring).

They do a seasonal migration over thousands of kilometres, returning here in our spring and departing March/April 😀
