I hope you enjoyed what I would like to be a reoccurring series on this channel. I wanted to use some clips as this music is rather obscure, but I already got dinged by one copyright bot so we'll see how this goes.

Great series! Keep it going.. I have a fair amount of Japanese vinyl that I collected while living there. I found those 60's Group Sounds LPs hard to find but I did make some other great discoveries. Japan is a great country with a wonderful musical history. Thanks for sharing!

Congrats Michael for your New series on japanese music.this Was really fabulous. I feel your passion for the japanese music and their diversity wich might only be happened in japan and no where Else.with one exception. During centuries japanese Religion (shintoism and buddhistic influences)has been used by ruling classes for political purpose and Dominaton.after their defeat by ww ll japan trembled ,to discover that their emperor was not a god, reshaped their inner believes and left many in confusion. With the uprising of the economic Power japanese man had a particular need for breaking out of discipline and rules and the exzessive obedience.they crazed Out in to Western music and Rock n roll boom took place but with their own japanese heart and soul into it.this mental escape created one of Unique New fresh popular Movement in a New field of music. It seems to be difficult for foreigners to understand the japanese soul but Something of oriental mystical thought.the music expresses it self. First copying western music and then creating independently Something totally New ,you might only been seen with german Experimental Rock in comparison.so Lots of music to explore As i am already familiar with the hops and the Happenings 4.and like to watch the other series.thanks Bodo

Thanks Michael. What little I know of Japanese music is from the 1970's, so this video was very informative. Maybe I will even recognize a name in future videos. - Chris

From the point of view of an English only speaking American; hearing Japanese pop and not being able to understand the lyrics highlights the importance of the lyrics to the feeling pop songs create.

This is going to be a very cool series! I was already familiar with Pyg and Mikami Kan because of earlier videos you posted. I have a weird fixation with Japanese pop, rock, and Jazz. A band I recently learned about is Cadillac, a more recent rockabilly/garage group. I think my interest in Japanese pop music probably began as a seed planted in my mind as a child when I heard "Sukiyaki" (I used to have the single, but I do have the Capitol release of Kyu Sakamoto's "hits" LP) that later sprouted when I heard Flower Traveling Band. It's weird because I don't speak, let alone read, Japanese. But the music fascinates and thrills me. Looking forward to future installments!

This “group sounds” trend reminds me a lot of what was also happening in Israel at the time, with what they called “beat music” - rock & roll finally breaking through in an eastern country, with a heavy influence from the Beatles early-mid period sound. Check out the “beat music festival” LP on Hed Arzi from 1969 for a good look at some of those groups

No, KZbin has automatic filters that catch anything with links or websites in comments. It’s probably in my folder of “comments to approve” on KZbin studio. Sorry about that.

Great new serie into a world of music that the knowledge at least for me is very poor. So Thanks for this, need to dive into this deeper, Mops and Pyg sounds very intressting. Looking forward for the next episode. Cheers / Janne
