This is so simple, but such fun to watch. Really impressed with this one, and the other similar game from the same developers which you played through previously on the channel.

Glad to hear it's fun to watch! I suspect simpler ones like this are probably a lot easier for people who haven't played the game to grasp and watch. Probably something I can think of when I'm picking games for future playthroughs.

Thank you for playing this! I enjoyed 1812 as it fit right in with A Glorious Chance. And I backed the kickstarter so I also have 1942 but I haven't cracked the shrinkwrap because I was afraid it would be too similiar to Pacific War 1942. I think 1942 is going to go to a new home and I will keep 1812 just because I have so many other WW2 games. They're good little games but they don't quite engage me enough to keep both.

Same here. I figured for 48.00 I'd get 2 quick games to keep at my cabin for rainy nights. I know what the games are and what they aren't and a 20 dollar difference takes them out of the "Worth it" Category for me. Oh well...

Definitely more likely to lose, but I feel like this won't be as hard as I've heard Tarawa is to win, and I can spot a couple of places where I could have saved actions. Sacrificing one front (the China one in particular) seems like a decent tactic that can make a difference. We'll see, I'll be back at it again. :)

Great playthrough! I Think there should be a VP rule if you occupy Japan and have a unused reserve token you get a VP point. ( At the end of the game). I have this game but have not played this yet, Still trying to win the 1812 game, But can't wait to get this to the table.

I don't know if it's the die or me, but yeah, it certainly seemed like we had a lot of 1s and 2s there for a while. Did we really get four 1s in a row at one point? The odds on that are 1 in 1296. To be fair, we had lots of "four rolls in a row" so the odds are much less than if we just tried once, but still. :)

I liked this video (as well as the War of 1812 one), however I really think you need to use a square-edged die (and dice when a game uses more than one) as in my view they should be more 'fair'. It seems that if there is a difference in how the corners are rounded it can really effect the game. Look at how many '1 rolls' and also the Japanese had way more '2 rolls' than you would think. This certainly effected some of there turns by limiting their actions. I do find that I agree with some of the comments about the cost of this game (and . . . 1812) compared to what you get. I don't know production costs of course and a manufacturer always makes price trade-offs to encourage business and profits. However, I hope that Worthington might offer a package deal for the two sister games. Finally, what the heck is a 'book game'. I saw this on the Worthington site. Thanks for all you do and keep it up. I would so like to sit down and have a beer with you someday. Maybe on another trip to D.C. as that is near where I live in MD.
@ZillaBlitz

Thanks for the comments! I think as odd as the dice rolls can look, in most cases it's just the randomness of small sample sizes. I did, however, perform a Chi-squared test on some dice in our Silent Victory campaign, rolling them in salt water for many hundreds of times, and found that one of them was statistically likely to be "off". And I do have some nicer dice that I often swap out in a game when the dice that come with the game seem particularly low-quality. I don't usually comment much on the price of particular games, because I find that they usually change over time, and different retailers often sell the games at different prices, and then they go on sale, etc. I can see some people pausing at the current prices, for sure, but I imagine there will be sales in the future and other retailers will have them at a different price. The book games they offer are solitaire games on a particular topic, and you can use a pencil to fill in the informational aspects of gameplay as you go along. There are some pretty good gameplay videos out there on them. I have one, the Bismarck one. And thanks for the kind words! I'll try to post updates on conferences I'll be attending. I'm not sure on the next trip to DC, but it's possible! :)

I do like both games; maybe 1942 a bit better. I did take 1812 on a trip recently and it took almost no space in my backpack and played easily on a hotel room desk. They’re fine when you just have an hour or so at home too- you can play two or three games of either in that time.

@Zilla Blitz: is there a Civil War solitaire game that you recommend? You stated that you should play your interest, and mine is definitely Civil War. Also, I was wondering if you would ever do a retro game video, like with an old SPI or Avalon Hill game?
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz 2 ай бұрын
A Civil War solitaire game is a great question. Off the top of my head I'm having trouble coming up with one. Which is odd, there must be some good ones. I mean, a lot of the chit pull games are really good for solitaire but you're playing both sides. A dedicated Civil War solitaire game is something I can't think of at the moment. And yes, I want to do more older games. It's high on my priority list to start digging into. :)

This looks like a fun, small, fast player, but $35 for what you’re ultimately getting just seems crazy. This is easily $10-$15 overpriced imo. I mean there’s just not much to it. You’d think at this price they’d at least give you a small rules booklet with some WW2 pacific theater notes or something, but just a rules pamphlet, handful of counters and small board has you guessing where $35 is being spent lol. Maybe I’ll grab it used someday. Good video though.

I think in general wargames are kind of pricey. They had it on sale most recently for $25, so I imagine it'll be on sale again at some point if people are willing to wait. Noble Knight had it in stock a little while ago, they often have games discounted too.
@caomhan84
@caomhan84 2 ай бұрын
You can say the same for all wargames though. They are virtually ALL overpriced for what you get compared to Euros (How often do we begrudgingly pay $70 for counters and a paper map? Wargamer tax). This one... It looks like you're paying for component quality, plus inflation. It would probably be around $22 if it was a small Euro game from a bigger publisher. I bought it myself, mostly because of the size. I paid a little extra too because I'm quite close to where Worthington is based so I had to pay sales tax. I feel better about the purchase though because I think I will get a lot of play out of this. We'll see when it arrives.

When I saw your review for 1812 about a month or so ago I was really interested in these games. However Boardgames Bliss up here in Canada selling this for $50 🇨🇦 that is just too much for such a game with really not much into it. If this was at $20-25 I would jump for it but not at the price it’s selling

This and the 1812 game seem very similar: similar strategic options and highly dependent on lucky die rolls. Seems very skewed towards the defender.
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz 2 ай бұрын
Definitely skewed toward the defender, but I see a couple of places where I could have saved actions that might have made a difference. I felt like our luck in this one was probably a little below average, perhaps? We got lucky on defense, on the whole, but I thought action-wise and attack-wise were probably below average.

Thanks. :) To expand on this a bit... Background music increases retention, which means on the whole that people like these videos better with music than without music, so I'll definitely keep it in. If it's too loud, or the wrong type of music, yes, that's another thing, but the data doesn't lie about music making the videos better on the whole. Having said that, there are viewers who do not like it. What I've found usually works is reducing the volume to a lower level. Because if you do that, you can still hear the audio but the background music, which is at a lower level, is barely audible and much less distracting.
