I forgot just how spectacular the production of the GMT version is. I've had my friend's copy of Pacific War on my shelf for 30 years, and despite several attempts was not able to crack that nut. Two of my favorite games are Fields of Fire and ASL so I wasn't intimidated or anything. I just could not grok the Victory Games rules delivery. When GMT's version of Pacific War released last year, I finally able to conquered the rules. Played the game for a couple months, gave it a thorough working over, then moved on like I always do. But now I feel like playing it again. That my friends, is a rare thing in wargaming. The quality of 'making the table' is something I'm constantly searching for, and Pacific War seems to have it.

Still have my original. Simply the best system ever designed at simulating the planning and execution of operations in the Pacific.

Super excited about this! I have great memories as a kid of watching Tora Tora Tora and Midway with my dad. He's not really a big gamer, but I'm hopeful to convince him to play a few scenarios with me.

Is that 3" or *gasp* 4 inches thick???? :o There is not only *Thap* Factor with all those booklets, and all those counter sheets .... there's THUD Factor when those maps hit the table!! They look laminated from the back!!! Nice, light breezy game there.... NOT!! There's a ton of stuff in that box for sure!!! Thank YOU, Mark! This looks great!

Brilliant! It must feel very satisfying to see it, so many years after the original. Unfortunately I didn't buy the new edition as I still have the original version I haven't played yet.

Not going to lie, I think paper maps would be better to give more space for counter storage. We almost all put these things under plexiglass to play anyways. Oh well, looks gorgeous. I’ll wait a bit to get until I see if it’s something I can reasonably get to my game table at its current size

These monster games are a throwback to another time, where people would spend endless hours setting up counters on the map, and arranging player aids in anticipation of a weekend wargaming marathon to enjoy with friends. Although the game looks absolutely *gorgeous* I am wondering how many grognards out there will actually be able to find an opponent. Thanks for the preview of what looks to be one of the definitive games of WW2 in the Pacific. Mark Herman & GMT have created a masterpiece!

I have both this and the new edition of Vietnam coming. I ordered them separately, had no idea that they’d be releasing at the same time. GMT bundled them into one shipment. That’s… That’s so much wargame hitting me all at once!

That is one awesome looking game Mark. Don't know if I'll ever have the cycles for something like this for the larger scenarios but I'll probably end up trying. BZ Sir.

It seems the game actually has one more countersheet (ten) then was announced (which was nine). What exactly was introduced in the form of new counters? Just more Admin counters I reckon.
@markherman502 жыл бұрын
The original was an estimate, it has 10 counter sheets when it was all laid out.

It kills me that south is at the top of the map.
@markherman502 жыл бұрын
That is incorrect... North is off the right side of the map (north pole) and then its an equal area map that originates from the northern origin point. Mercator maps disorient our view of the sphere that we live on.
@user-kd5br7sw2s2 жыл бұрын
Hmm…I agree on the video it sort of looks a bit odd that the text is “upside down” compared to “traditional” map orientation, and that “north” is not, again, the traditional north/south vertical alignment, whereas it appears north is the “bottom right” of the map as it’s shown in this video, so it seems north is more a diagonal alignment of the map. So for me, I picture that I would play this game with me positioned at the “top left” corner (as per the orientation in this video) looking towards the bottom right corner so that I am orientated “properly” (ie.south to north). So no criticism, just an interesting take on the map.
