This too was my most anticipated game in years. I was looking for the be-all and end-all Pacific theatre hex based wargame so hoping this is the one. First thing I checked was the counter sheets and then remaining parts to be sure all were perfectly registered and printed. This is the finest GMT production to date. Look forward to your storage solution video!

Definitely in the camp that feels that this is still the best Pacific Theater game ever designed. While the game box may look as appealing while sitting in a bookcase, I've taken to using "Hugo's Amazing Tape" to keep a box, ah, relatively closed, when the there is so much stuff in the box that the lid will not completely cover the box bottom. It's clear tape, sticky but without any residue that will ruin a box, and is reusable, so you just remove the strip you've cut to keep the box secure and wrap it back around when it's time to put the game away. You missed a "WTF Moment" when you were looking at the naval units and didn't notice the Tirpitz!! 😂

I have cut/clipped approximately 65% of the counters and have them in two trays. Hopefully, the rest will fit in one more. Also, I love the texture/finish of the counters.

I live in fear of unfolding a map like that the wrong way and tearing it at the seam. That can happen. Ask me how I know.

Another great video, Ardwulf! Thank you for contributing so much to the hobby! I knew I recognized the photo on the front of the box but was interested to learn more about it. It turns out that photo captures the moment the USS Yorktown (CV5) was struck by a torpedo bomber from the Japanese carrier Hiryu at the Battle of Midway.

A Tony Curtis reference in a Pacific war game and you go with Some Like It Hot and not Operation Petticoat?! The two were even released in the same year. His lesser known Beachhead! would also be acceptable. 😂

Great look into this one. My brother had the VG version when we were growing up, but I never learned it to play. We both have purchased this release with the intent of playing this together at some point in the future. Looks like an incredible game to me.

Another great video. I am passing, for the moment. My biggest concern is the non-solitaire friendly rules. The game is huge and I doubt that I could find an opponent. I am also not a fan of mounted boards. They were great before plexi, but now they consume space, increase the cost and add nothing to the playability of the game. I have also noticed that my old game boards have bowed over time. Maybe it is better to store them laying flat vs upright.

Lotta PW unboxings this week. Why this surprises anyone is mind-boggling to me :).

You need to go ziplock in this game to put everything back in the box. Main interest is guadalcanal and South Pacific so I have those kind of set appart. That is how I organized it. I want to play the Strategic scenario at least once. But my boardgame table is literally not big enough for everything. I can fit the maps but the player aids are out... And I have problems finding people to actually invest 200 hours into this game... None of my friends are really into this type of insanity. Even getting a group to do Guadalcanal (2 players per side so we can take turns and rest) is hard enough. Booked for next month! Looking forward to it.

Looking forward to digging into this! I’ve emailed GMT about purchasing a second pacific war box for storage and if that is possible.

@@CptEggman I will! I had to reach out to them as well for a damaged map replacement 🤦🏻♂️one of them was peeling off the backing at the crease.

I got mine last week, the map had a hole in it from something falling on it. I’m sure GMT will replace it. Once I finish clipping Third World War I will start on this.

I am not sure about the mounted map. I think we would have been better served by a paper one. The Scenario map might have benefitted from beiung blown up to larger hexes like Salerno. Tis' but a minor bit of nick pickery.

A shit ton of unboxing videos...and no one has a problem with the upside down...all the action is on the far side of the map, map? Look for my rant video this weekend...lol.

One of our locals bitched about it. I pointed out the the map is laid out, and the print aligned, from the American perspective.

Do the counters for Pacific War fit in your standard Heavy duty corner clipper ?
