Ardwulf, thanks for executing the Vassal clicks in this video and for being an insightful wargame historian/reviewer, and one of the hobby's most beloved drinking companions. Hope we get a chance to meet at Compass Expo so we can fight face-to-face over the Wellington's Victory game map.

Thanks again Mark for both of your Pacific wargames, which are not only the best games ever published on the Pacific war, they're two of the best games ever published on any war! And thanks also for your expert briefing about the South Pacific theater in this video. Gamers have never really understood the sparsity of carrier battles - and the almost goose egg history of big gun battles in the Pacific. In my opinion, the Pacific War is the greatest simulation game in history. It's a monster cardboard history lesson, not a game of triple-turret bumper boats.

@@HomoLudens1871 Fred, thank you for coordinating this playthrough with two of the best wargame commentator/tutors in the hobby. Having Mark's curated tutorial is invaluable to the community and having Gary there to help run Vassal is a terrific bonus. Last, but not least, YOUR you tube wargame designer interviews and teaching videos are intelligent and extremely helpful, even to grognard gamers like me. You are the best beginner wargamer in the world, and I mean that as a compliment!

At 1:25:26 Mark says that L1 gets a +1 modifier for every three steps. Thats incorrect L2 get +1 per three. L1 +1 per 6 steps. L0 +1 per 12 steps. This means that the allied cap actually misses…😮

I always say if a player has interest they will stick with it and learn it. Meaning yes it’s ok for beginners. I base this on introducing many players to wargaming. The simplest game doesn’t work if the player has no interest. I have taught A world at war to a complete newbie.
@HomoLudens18712 жыл бұрын
I agree with that to a large extent.

Question is there hidden Task Force positions used in this Vassal Game?
@Skyrider682 жыл бұрын
So, kind of followed what was happening, I think. Seemed like a pretty fair amount of back and forth off-board with the charts, which broke my concentration a bit. With Gary's big strike at the end, was there anything you could have done differently in that engagement, Fred? Or was it just some well-timed great dice rolls on Gary's part that turned the tide?
@HomoLudens18712 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, sorry for the late reply! I think I would have played differently how my principal task force moved and would have tried keeping more distance with japanese task forces.

Isn't the attack on the carrier performed with a L2 fighter? In that case has the +1 modifier added to the attack and the carrier sunk?

in 1985 I was playing computer games on a Commodore 64. Why can't the counter printers pre-clip games for an extra $10 or $20?

Why are you using force markers and not Task force markers for your naval moves. At 1:00:26 Fred brings up the Allied display. All units are still in force 16 including the LRA. The naval units should be in a TF. Ardwulf is doing the same, force markers not TF markers. If this is to help teach beginners how to play, this basic mistake should not appear…😮
