Out catching some of the equipment in action.
There are two common definitions of coastal erosion. First, coastal erosion is often defined as the loss or displacement of land along the coastline due to the action of waves, currents, tides. wind-driven water, waterborne ice, or other impacts of storms.

I've noticed a few things in the bunch of videos always around KZbin about the Pacifica problems and wanna mention them for everyones interest and comments! Why is so much ground on the top, back from the edge, above the cliffs, being left barren on the top where rain water will run off and/or saturate the soil ... rather then be absorbed and managed somewhat by groundcover .. PLANT SOME GRASSES !!! .. also a LONGER area could use rock to help slow down erosion at the cliff base! I noticed in aerial views you can see alot of silt/sand being washout out to sea by undertoe ... and this silts distance from the "beach" is quiet a distance away. The huge width of the white water area, from shore to sea, in all the videos I've seen, tells me these films are being taken at high tide .... for added drama I'm sure, and the "shallow" area is considerable. This means alot of sand is being washed to sea and is available for drag back onto the beach. Obviously, very little beach maintenance has been done or the shallows would be shorter, and there would be much more rock in place along the cliff base!! So .... I'm left to feel like many people want a beachfront ocean view with no responsibility for maintaining that view ... so ... no one gives a damn until it's troubling times, finally, in their back yard ... then they want sympathy and feel the world to fix their problems for them !!!

It is good to see that they're not waiting for the buildings to fall and pollute the ocean. Sorry to see people losing their homes, but I'm sure they realized this would happen eventually.

Above Westlake on 1979 I used to take a picnic with the baby along the cliffs and watch hang gliders. The ocean was over 500 feet out The tan sand used to be grainey like sugar between your toes. The oil slick in 1972 changed all that. The beach went black and greasy and looks the same now. But all the beaches are gone!!!!

Im a lic. excavation contractor in marine construction contractor for 38 years. Those rocks mean nothing, do nothing, other than waste time and resources. If you dont put some sort of membrane in with the rocks [RIP WRAP] the water just washes the sand though them. So that just leaves the fact that they are simply wasting the taxpayers money on another gov. project that the people in charge of have no business being in charge of. The rock will simply sink into the sand and seem to disappear. Now as for the solution? There is none.! you would have to build a wall with a footing 15 feet deep on the beach all the way up to the top of the cliff reinforced concrete. i have seen storms that undermined 3 foot thick concrete walls 100 years old with 15 foot footings and reclaim 150 feet of land in 12 hours including dozens of 150 year old houses multi million dollar homes and 12 hours later it was a beach in Brooklyn New York. Just pack up your stuff and move, would be my advice

Breakwater must tame the waves before it hits shore so they should be built off shore not at base of cliff. But I suspect the sea is too deep even near the shore. In that case too bad and its back to nature

The cliffs are way too steep. They need to add a lot more boulders, stones, and fill so as to make a more gradual elevation change from the ocean to the top. They need to plant vegetation on the slope so as to hold the soil in those areas. That way there won't be caveins. It's going to take a lot of money and manpower to force the ocean further out. However, it can be done. Just getting a couple of guys with a few machines isn't going to cut it. How about Newsome taking some real action for a change?

I don't understand how making a road-sized walkway down to the beach is going to help in stemming erosion! Would someone explain to me what is being attempted here?? (It says Susan Cassady, but it is really jana leland keying!)

The beach is eroding, so let's drive some bulldozers onto it, to deposit a few rocks at a time. 🤦🙄🤦 This is like using TP to clean up a flood!🙄😐 The bulldozers aren't helping, either.

They could throw boulders down there for eternity. Still ain't nothing ever gonna stop the sea from washing the soil away. In the first place , the city should never have been built so close to the ocean. It's actually as simple as that. It's so eery the small town . The city actually looks dead. The pier where even people walk out on looks dead. Very strange place. To think long time ago, maybe a hundred years back, I bet it was really beautiful. But it looks dead.
