Archetypal Psychology with Dr. Patricia Berry

Patricia has been active in the Jungian world for nearly half a century, serving on faculties and boards of training institutions. She is one of the founders of Archetypal Psychology and is the author of Echo’s Subtle Body: A Contribution to Archetypal Psychology. Other more recent articles include: “Image in Motion,” “Rules of Thumb,” and “A Little Light.” In 1991 she was the first Scholar in Residence at Pacifica. She lectures internationally and has served as president of both the New England and the Inter-Regional Societies of Jungian Analysts. This is wild. I had a dream last night that included an elephant. It was agitated, trying to get into the building I took shelter in. He broke through the wall with his tusks, but only stared at me. I feel this to mean there is a powerful “me” calling me out to give up dead friendships, to make room for the growth in my network, calling, and learning.

The awareness/experience of that I am is prior to the awareness/experience of what I am or who I am. This is the experience of being aware of being aware, which is beyond identity and is our true nature. We are more like a verb than a noun. More like a cyclical spiralic process than a thing or object. Being aware of being aware is something we are, know and do simultaneously, three in one unity: this is our inherent wholeness. In this state we are infinite potential. It is good to remember that for some, tobacco is medicine, like those with a condition called optho- neuritis. Could the macho figure represent an unconscious unwanted feeling of inadequacy in social situations as a male? Like needing a crutch to cope with a wounded leg representing a weakness or vulnerability.

I noticed over the decades, the soul was removed from the collective and put in Myth but gravity and sexual categories are expanded in importance. If you quote Jesus, it is seen as nonsense. Truth is nonsense?
