Who has learned this Kata doing left and right starting positions??
@nora-louisemuller39 Жыл бұрын
I always practice both sides.

Try doing it backwards

@yeshanaphtali3094 OK. LET me get it down forwards. That must be really crazy. I study Shotokan as well. Often thought of how it would look in reverse.

So we slavishly obey the Kata, but ignore the words of O Sensei with regard to no 123 in martial arts? That's very revealing. I shall remove123 from my thinking when applying or teaching technique.

@Questions Are A Burden That is how I took it, but in the end they become one flowing motion as the static positions transition into each other.

Kata is only basic structure. There has to be a set form to move through the techniques. You have to start somewhere. But you can expand to the further reaches of the Jo. I learned the foot and hand work. Without holding the Jo. In my bed room during Covid. No room for the Jo. But I have a 36 inch 3/4 inch steel round. It’s a great tool for Bokken work. But really helps build upper body strength. Plus I started doing 31 Jo Kata on the left side as well as the right side starting position. And it was really difficult using opposite starting position. Got really confusing. But I work through it. And now do both sides.

SOME TIME ONE MUST DO 31. BEFORE 1. REMEMBER. BASICS. TURNS INTO ECLECTED. BUT ONE MUST START AND GROW WITH THE BASICS. TO REACH. TAI NO SEN. ZEN. THERE IS NO ECLECTED. WITH OUT BASICS. FOUNDATION BEFORE STRUCTURE.

@@rez6624 Please expand. I doubt that watching videos is of much use if you don't understand physically what you are looking at. It takes years to develop the Aikido body and way of moving. I know this because I have seen hundreds of people at various stages of doing that, many improve and some make little progress and yet still achieve a dan grade. Aikido is not as obvious in its operation as most others, but they also can have their hidden side. If you imagine that you can learn by standing in your own bedroom waving a stick or or and arm there is a good chance that you are deluding yourself and need to go to a Dojo where hopefully you will receive good instruction and train with all shapes and sizes of people.
