I'm going to have to say that you have ticked a lot of boxes here. No crap music. No crap opening sequences No begging for a like and subscription from the word go and you introduce yourself to new viewers. That all adds up to a subscription achievement being unlocked. My mum used a hot sewing needle for this. I lost a big toe nail at 14 from a tragic blunt force trauma injury from an errant bicycle seat post without a seat on it. I had the bike balanced on the back wheel and the seat post hit the toe like a hammer from 3 feet.
@docnelles12493 жыл бұрын
Next time if you should happen to need to repeat it use a small (tiny) nail or a sewing needle that has been put under a flame to semi-sterilize will work much better to pierce the fingernail. When I use to work in medical field we purchased a cordless soldering iron to do it. Heat it until red hot with the smallest tip and release the button then go ahead and pierce the nail it will be much quicker. The nail almost looks like the hole is melting and is much quicker with less pain. Take and squeeze the nail to have the blood and puss evacuate from underneath it as much as tolerable. Try to get as much out until it stops then clean with betadine or alcohol. The put a clean dressing on it to keep from getting infected. Change every day until no longer able to get any more out then just keep clean as you are going to lose the nail eventually. T's and P's that you recover quickly. If it appears you are getting.more infection you'll need to go to the doctor and get antibiotics.

Funnily enough, if you go to the hospital emergency, because I was too much a wuss to do it myself, they have this little tool that offers a little looped wire that is incredibly thin at it's tip - it takes a couple batteries and when they push the button the wire glows red - they touch the nail and it's done instantly. I felt your relief when the pressure was relieved - lol - it was the exact same for me in the hospital; Instant relief. Grats and respect for you, man...

I loved the solution for the fingernail. I was cringing, thinking that once it broke through that it would keep going, which made me want to say out loud "use a drill press!" where you would raise your finger against the drill instead. Datsun - interesting! I had a 1972 and my brother had a 1972. He still has his in a restored condition, even returning it to original lime green. Cat: looks like a fun project.

I am as old as your D4 and over the years have had 4 or 5 fingernail injuries like yours. The first was when I was 10 years old and my dad drilled a hole in it with a drill that was turned by hand. As you described it was instant relief and felt much better. I drilled a couple more with a drill before learning of heating up a sewing needle red hot and burning a hole through the nail. Much easier! Good luck with the rest of your tear down and rebuild. Great videos and I admire your perseverance.

Hello from Australia, do not use a drill to put a hole in your finger nail because the pressure on the nail hurts more, get a paperclip and straighten most it out, you then heat one end red hot and pop it through the nail no pain but it stinks a bit. Secondly NEVER pass a single splayed chain or rope at an angle over a hook, always use two chains or one with a loop to go over the hook. The way that you have slung this engine it only takes a small shift in weight to make it slip one way or the other then it all goes to SHIT on the ground or on YOU. I have been a heavy diesel mechanic for almost sixty years and I learnt all of this the hard way. Thank you

I have the same "low lid" situation in my shop as well. Even so, I installed an I beam trolley hoist to pick up stuff and move it around, and positioning work. Even though the beam is only 7' high, the hoist still does a lot of work and save my back, as well as it's safer than other methods. I positioned it so that one end is over a heavy duty workbench which lets me set work pieces on and off the bench.

Worked in a machine shop many moons ago and smashed my finger. Drilling a hole in it to relieve the pressure is definitely a good idea but number one, you should do it immediately before the blood dries up and number two, I wouldn’t use an electric drill, I just used my fingers and twisted it back-and-forth, so as not to drill a hole through my finger😁

The proper trick to relieve the pressure under a finger-nail, is to use a "Paper-Clip," unfold the paper clip, so as to be able to use just one section to heat, the other section to act as a handle. Cut at say a 45 degree angle, and heat with a cigarette (as in BIC-Lighter) lighter, or use a plumbing torch. The idea is to make a small hole as possible, via 'melting through the nail.' works every time. and a lot less dangerous than using a drill.

I ran a piece of scenery over my toe and the nail on my big toe looked like that. Went to the doctor, an old army doctor. He spread out a bunch of pads on the lab floor, I wondered why…. He heated the end of a paper clip red hot and touched it to the nail. Blood shot out about 6 feet! I knew why the pads…. He said he had learned this from a corpsman, and it worked slick. The blood shooting immediately cools the paper clip. The problem with using a drill is it can catch and drill into your toe. Immediate relief as soon as the pressure is relieved!

Popping blood blisters under nails. Try taking a pin, needle, or clean nail. Heat it up to close to red hot, then gently poke into the nail. It goes through almost instantly with little risk of drilling too deep.
@Holli6223 жыл бұрын
NONONO. What you do is that you take a needle and cut it with you sidecutter, that makes a sharp edge on it, then you fingertwist/drill with that. A drill can, if you're not careful get deeper down you finger than you want to, the needle wont. Be careful! Nice vid btw! 👍

Another safer way with the tiny drill, is to put the drill motor in a vice and control how hard you press the finger , rather than a heavy drill above a soft nail bed. Personally, I just spin a small drill with my pin vise made from a jacobs chuck connected to a file handle. Handy tool that one.

But farm was for sale and no one wanted the old tractor so off to the recycler it went, the same sad story as a lot of these old machines. I used to pull a normal paperclip open, heat the end red hot with a flame and use the hot end to punch a hole in the fingernail. Relief was instant. Cover with a bandaid.

Re fingernail: I used a blowtorch and a masonry nail(first one I found) get it red hot and burn through. Trouble with drilling,you put to much pressure and go into the flesh!!!

Clean the CAM thoroughly and polish bearing diameters and also cam surfaces. Then soak and soak the gears. I think with some TLC these items will be saved, unless you have mucho dollars.

This may be down the road a bit, but you should take a hone to each cylinder. Not to remove any material, but to put a crosshatch on it.

Your D4 is a bit newer than my dad's. He restored his several years ago. Alot of details to watch for take care. Squatch253 a great rebuilder.

Been dying to mention Squatch if no one else had. His current rebuild is a D2 but I'm sure some of his teachings would transfer to this.

If you need a manual for your Hyster winch, go to Allied Winches' website. They bought Hyster years ago & have their manuals available for free download. I'm really digging the the whole tear down of the D4 7U. I've got a 1956 D4 7U with cab & Winch myself. Mine is a working restoration. If you want to convert the generator to an alternator, check out auto-lec rebuilders in Texas. They offer both 12 & 24 volt conversions. I've also found a company that offers new sprockets, blade pivots & an updated a grease style track tensioner. If you want their information, let me know, I'll dig it up for you. Your doing a good job tearing the old machine apart. The CAT dealer still carries quite a few parts for these old machines. As long as you bring them part numbers, no matter how old they are, it'll come up in their system. Not all maybe available, but they can give you the most recent number in their system. It'll help out with tracking down replacement parts. Good luck!
