I am mortified he lost his Geordie accent, but then I lost mine too, so I am being a hypocrite. I wasn't sure how I felt about him as an actor, but just found out he grew up right next to me outside Newcastle. I confess, I hated Pacific Rim the first time I watched it and yet it seemed like a dream movie for me as a nerd girl, giant machines, monsters and fighting. I watched it again and then I loved it, but wasn't sure about Charlie Hunnam, I thought I didn't like him at all, but found myself then starting to watch Sons of Anarchy after someone mentioned he was in that (I know, sounds like I have been living under a rock). So I think I may just be a fan as I now look for things he is in :-) I hope they do a Pacific Rim 2 too now. So glad he didn't do 50 Shades of Grey, a movie about an abusive guy and a girl with no self esteem, hope that no one wants to see that movie, sexism at it's worst.

The Geordie accent is a strong one, not ideal for most films I would imagine, speaking as someone from "up north" I'd wager he made a conscious decision to scrap it. Couple that with the subconscious picking up of other accents, living in America etc etc, and what you get is this very odd mish-mash of English xD Seriously, look up the Geordie accent, if you're not from England (especially round this neck of the woods) it'll be quite an aural experience. Y'might want subtitles, though...
