Your tour provider will supply the boiled water, but you will need to supply the container! We recommend having a water bottle and a 3L bladder in your day pack. Garret also feels very strongly that these are some of the best electrolytes out there!

Rain Gear☔️
You NEED to have rain gear in your day pack while hiking the Inca Trail or you run the risk of getting yourself and all the stuff in your pack soaked ⚠️ Trust us, if the clouds open up, that little plastic poncho won’t cut it! No! The tour companies store your luggage for you while you hike! Your tour operator can provide the details!

Great Video! My wife and I are doing this same trek in March of next year. Definitely gives us a great idea of what we should bring. I’m curious why you said to just bring a single set of thermals for top and bottom? Did you wear a separate base layer underneath those thermals so they didn’t get nasty? Thanks!

The set of thermals will help keep you warm if it gets cold (in case you need them). We took spare clothes - but also just accepted that we are going to be dirty and smelly by the end of the trek 😂 Hope you guys have a great time! 🙌

Great tips! I am going next month and didn't realize how unprepared I was. Portable Bidet is brilliant. Quick question - How's your Spanish? I've been working on mine for a few months and can understand base terms but can't really speak it. Did you have any trouble with the language barriers in Lima, Cuzco, and the hikes?

Glad you enjoyed the video - thanks for watching! Our Spanish isn't the best either. We didn't have a problem getting around. The majority of the people we interacted with spoke english in Peru. However, We always utilize google translate - if we get into a situation where we need to utilize a language outside of our speaking ability. The app also lets you take a picture of items (such as a food menu) and translate it to english. We hope you enjoy your trip!!

Also just remembered! Most of the porters actually speak a local language completely different than Spanish so your guide will translate!

Do you suggest fleece lined hiking pants for the trail? Too hot?

I think that will be too hot! Regular hiking pants should be perfect but you can always keep a pair of thermals in your backpack if you are nervous! For reference, we just completed the Everest base camp trek which is much colder and my fleece lined pants were even too hot for that!

Going on the hike with Alpaca in Oct! Did you guys get a yellow fever vaccine for the misquitos? I have seen posts about people getting this but not sure if needed! Thanks for awesome info ❤

I think yellow fever was a big thing in 2018 but not as worrisome now. Lauren was vaccinated from a trip to Brasil she took during that time but I didn’t get the vaccine. I would suggest checking with a doctor as to the latest guidance. There is a place called passport health which specializes in travel vaccines but I do feel like they try to use scare tactics to get you to get a lot of medication which you may not need to so proceed with caution!

@@bardotfan1 on the first day we put it in the porter carried bag but we brought it in our packs for day 2 at higher elevation! Generally our puffs were pretty light so it didn’t make a difference either way!

Hello! They are technically optional but with the steep inclines and descents I would say they are highly recommended! Most tour companies include trekking poles and if made from the right materials they are quite light!

I have been watching this video to help me with packing but I struggle to keep it under 4.5kg, following the advice! My power bank is already 450grams too. Did you guys carry the power bank with you in the daypack? I am also going with alpaca expedition and in the email they sent to me, they said duffel bag is not water proof! Did you guys have to wrap the sleeping bag in another plastic bag or something? Thanks! 🙏

Oh no! This packing process can be so stressful-sorry you’re having trouble! Remember to keep out all the things you’ll have in your body and in your day pack when weighing (i.e. separate out one outfit, socks, etc.) when you weigh, that may help. The duffle bag isn’t waterproof! They have a plastic bag they give you for the sleeping bag and pad but we recommend keeping all your personal items in a large dry bags. We got some good cheap and light ones off Amazon!
