@@paratechies338 It is nearly 3AM 3 years after you posted your reply here and I am done watching your video. I have NEVER watched someone pack a parachute(correctly) and was always curious if it was as easy or more involved than the clips in movies of people just rolling them up like sleeping bags. Now I know. I won't ever be a parachuter. Unless it is a last step to saving my life from a failing plane.(obviously at that point it is not my chute and it has been pre-packed for just such an emergency). Flying planes seemed easier for me to get a grasp on than this. lol. If I were ever in need of folding a parachute in some bizarre scenario tho, now I have at least seen it done properly once.

There isn't a lot you can do wrong. Even though he was tucking in things here and there, once you start squashing it down, things move. We had a perfectionist packing his chute. It took him forever, even got his iron out to get out the wrinkles. [Joking] and he still had a malfunction. I was pretty quick at it, but I still did a flat pack. Somehow got it in the bag with a lot of punching etc. And I never had a fail, just a small line twist. So don't be to worried of being perfect, but don't be blaze about it. Anyway, I haven't jumped for a while, but your video makes me want to jump again and pack your way. Seems more comfortable then crawling around the floor. Thanks
@jjasper75124 ай бұрын
That was my question, how important is each step, seems very complicated, would love to know what causes them to fail/have issues and how much of that is due to making a mistake in the packing process. The analogy I got was this is akin to sewing and making your bed, two things I'm not that great at, best I stay grounded!!
@kylelambert16725 ай бұрын
Im not sure how i ended up here, and will likely never get to skydive, but i always made ny own parachutes for my action figures as a kid. I always wondered how they were packed. I always figured the flaps on the bag opened and the parachute fell out. Looks like the weight of the skydiver opposite the drag on the pilot chute pulls the canopy out of the container bag?

Tiny packing errors happen frequently, resulting in line twists, line-overs, steering handles that get stuck or just a rough opening. Twists are usually easy to remove during the jump, line-overs depend a lot, all you can do is pump the steering lines a couple times and hope it solves.

I have two questions(well aactuallyI have a number of questions,but I will not waste anyone's time w/all my questions, seeing I'm not a skydiver/base jumper). What is a slider's purpose/what's it used for?? I'm guessing skydiver & base jumping chutes are the same, do all parachutes have reserve chutes in them?? THX for any info I can get, I've always been curious of skydiving & even more curious how to pack a chute. I know zero on this sport, other then what this vid spoke of.
@shorehambeach5 жыл бұрын
Bill. The slider slows down the opening of the canopy so it doesn't inflate too quick and cause opening shock to the skydiver (we are falling at 80 - 120 mph when we open the canopy). Skydive and Base canopies are similar but there are fundamental differences between them. The base canopy are larger and have less "cells" - they are designed to open more reliably and be more docile than a skydive canopy. All skydive rigs have a reserve - base rigs do not have a reserve as you open lower than a reserve can make any difference. A skydive reserve is packed very differently than the "main canopy' that you see on the video - a skydive reserve is "flat packed" like a base canopy. Watch the packing video for a base canopy to see what i mean.
@monkeyx173 жыл бұрын
so the reserve is at the top and the main is at the bottom of the bag is it?

I think you are pushing the nose too deep, it has to be straight down and just a little inside, the cells needs to catch air and if it's to inside it will be hard for the central cells to catch air, resulting a slow and uneven opening. Also it would be great if the material would be inside the D bag, not outside, and the stows are a little too big + it's a good idea to do double stows. cheers
